English
This term, students will be writing a story using a stimulus picture to guide their writing. For their assessment the children will choose from two pictures and write their own story. Throughout the term we will be writing stories focusing on the setting, characters, complication and resolution. We will be encouraging children to use a variety of descriptive words to make their story interesting. |
Maths
We are continuing to build on our work from Terms 1,2 and 3.
- Patterns and algebra - describe and represent growing patterns, apply rules to continue a growing pattern, representing and describing addition and subtraction patterns
- Fractions and decimals - identify one half of an item and identifying half of a group
- Number and Place value - joining parts to make a whole, identifying unknown parts in addition and subtraction, develop and refine strategies for addition and subtraction problems, investigating how to recall number facts, skip counting by 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s, representing two-digit numbers and counting beyond 100
- Data representation and interpretation - ask suitable questions to collect data, collect and represent data
- Chance - identify the chance of events occurring, predict outcomes of familiar events – will happen, won’t happen, might happen
Science
Spot the Difference
Our unit this term is called Spot the difference. In this unit, students will be investigating changes that happen around us in the context of food such as chocolate, popcorn and spaghetti. They will learn about how heating and cooling food can change its properties and whether or not the change can be reversed.
HASS
My changing world
This is a continuation of unit from term 3. Students continue to investigate a local place to identify and describe its features, the activities that occur there, how the place changes and ways to care for it.
HPE
Students in year one will perform the fundamental movement skills of two-handed throwing, two-handed catching, soccer dribbling and basketball dribbling in a variety of movement situations. They will see how the heart reacts to different physical activities.
Music
In this unit, students will learn main rhythmical elements – Ta, Ti-ti, Za, Vah and Great Vah. They will explore sounds as they learn to listen to and make rhythmical patterns using a variety of percussion instruments. They will also learn to discriminate between long and short sounds and silence.
Technology
Students are looking closely at Technologies used on the farm in the following ways.
- Identifying and exploring digital systems and their purpose on the farm.
- Exploring how movement in technologies assist in the growing of plants, and caring for animals to produce food and fibre on the farm.
- Recognise that digital tools may store their personal data to store their information online.
- Permission from a trusted adult to access apps or websites and ask for help when feeling unsafe.
Visual Arts
This term in Visual Arts, year 1 students will explore the wonderful things to see ‘Up in the Sky’. We will discuss images found in books and look at various famous artworks. Students will build on their collage skills as well as learn different techniques with an array of materials. These will be assembled to create their artwork for this term. This will conclude our studies of Visual Arts for the students that have been participating this semester.
Drama
‘The Magic Beach’
Students explore the picture book "Magic Beach", through improvisation, mime, movement and reader's theatre.

Reading & Spelling
Our school continues to embed a whole school approach to reading and spelling across Prep to Year 6. This involves teaching the reading and spelling demands of the Australian Curriculum, providing students with a systematic synthetic phonics approach and unpacking the Big 6/Science of Reading through engaging and meaningful lessons. Students engage with decodable texts when learning to read and rich authentic texts when reading to learn and continue to use the PLD approach for their spelling and sound focus

QP is an online portal helping the school move toward a cashless and paper friendly school.
- The QP portal allows Parents and Carers to grant participation consent online for activities such as swimming and excursions which reduces our need to print out paper consent forms
- Also, the QP portal enables Parents and Carers to make payment online for school activities and viewing unpaid invoices payment history.

Tuckshop
Tuckshop operates daily during the two breaks. Orders can be placed online via FlexiSchools or at the tuckshop on a paper bag. Tuckshop orders are placed in class tuckshop basket before 9am. Miscellaneous items can be purchased over the counter. Please talk to your child about not giving money away or sharing food.
