Year 5 - 6 News from the Deputy

Year 5-6 news from the Deputy
This newsletter brings to a close our 2023 school year. As I write this, our teachers are finalising report cards and reflecting on the year that was. Our last upper school event for the year will be the Year 6 Graduation on Thursday 7th December, an event that concludes seven years of primary school for our Year 6 cohort.
Since our last newsletter, we have had the pleasure of acknowledging students who have been outstanding in a range of fields through our annual Awards Night Presentation. I would like to give a special mention to two students in particular.
Indah Kenigar 5B

Indah was the recipient of our Citizen of the Year Award and our Trinity Beach SS Values Award. Academically Indah was also an Academic Excellence Award recipient. She is also a Young Scholar, demonstrating a strong commitment to her school work and the belief that motivation and persistence leads to success. Indah contributed to raising over $135, 000 for Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation. This was achieved through her aspiration to climb Mt Kilimanjaro, a feat she successfully completed in September as the second youngest person ever to climb the mountain. In preparation for the 6 day, 4000m vertical climb Indah trained three times a week and while other students were sleeping in on a Saturday morning, Indah was in training. A regime which included trekking up Walsh’s pyramid. Indah is a student who we are proud to have here at TBSS. I am sure that her belief & motivation will see her achieve much success in life
Nyah O’Mahoney 6E

As well as subject dux awards for English, History & Social Sciences and Drama, Nyah is the 2023 Year 6 overall Dux award. Nyah was also the recipient of our Excellence in Leadership award and the All-Rounder award. Nyah has shown dedication and commitment to her position as school captain. She is a dedicated and compassionate leader who has been not only an outstanding role model for younger students, but has also worked to promote our school and provide additional opportunities for our students outside of the classroom. She has given up her time to volunteer at school events and organise fund raising ventures. Nyah has implemented run club this year, which sees up to 100 of our students participating before school every Thursday. She has reached out to the community to gain sponsorship. She listens to her peers, organising a pie drive to raise funds for the student council. She is an active citizen, volunteering at all school events. Nyah is passionate about others getting recognition for their efforts and succeeding but doesn’t seek the limelight for herself. Nyah leaves a legacy at TBSS of which she should be very proud.
Transition Day – Smithfield State High School
A reminder that our Year 6 students who have enrolled for Smithfield State High School in 2024 will spend the day at the high school on the 6th of December (Week 10). Students must be dropped to the front of SSHS in the morning at 8:30am and picked up in the afternoon at 2:30pm. Students are to wear primary school uniform on Transition Day. Don’t forget to pack lunch, water bottles, hats and pens. For all other students, Wednesday is a normal school day.
Year 5 & 6 Bring Your Own Device (BYOx) 2024
Book lists and an email outlining the instructions for setting up your child’s device will be sent early next week. Onboarding sessions (opportunity to work with our technical staff to set up your child’s laptop) will occur on the 17th, 18th & 19th January 2024. Please follow link provided in the email to register for one of these sessions. Also, if you have not already returned the Charter Agreement, please do so by the end of the week.
All the best for the holiday season and I look forward to seeing our returning families and students next year.
Kind regards
Leanne Bell
Deputy Years 5 & 6
Year 3 - 4 News from the Deputy

Week 10, 2023…how time flies when you’re having fun! What an amazing year it has been at TBSS, so many wonderful memories, so many fantastic achievements and so many wonderful students and families that I was fortunate enough to work with along the way.
REPORT CARDS
This week I have had the pleasure of reading through the Year 3 & 4 report comments. It was such a pleasure to see the huge effort our students have put into their learning and this is reflected in their results. Be sure to take the time to read through your child’s report card with them when they’re emailed home on Thursday and celebrate the successes they have had as I can assure you, they have worked extremely hard to get to where they did 😊
SPOTLIGHT
As Deputy Principal you are very fortunate as you get to see many classrooms and all of the magical things that happen within them. This fortnight, I was amazed to see what 3E had been doing in theirs. On top of their regular school work, they have been learning about Echidnas in their spare time as they were tasked with naming 4 baby echidnas born at the property in Oberon, NSW. 3E decided on the names “Spike, Gumnut, Rose Thorn and Mr Prickle” and then one of their wonderful Mum’s burnt the names into wooden plaques to display in the classroom. The students learnt all about echidnas throughout this journey and designed an informative poster using all their newfound knowledge to create this and display in their classroom. The class were then lucky enough to receive a picture story book as a thank you from the family who owned the echidnas.

CLASS PARTIES/CHRISTMAS CARDS
Classes may be holding class parties in Week 10 and while I don’t want to be the Grinch, please may I ask that you try and limit the amount of sugary foods that are provided for these and try for an alternative snack to share. As we know, one child on a sugar high can be a lot to handle but 25 in a classroom can quite easily become quite chaotic and we want to ensure the students have the opportunity to enjoy their final week in Year 3 or Year 4. We are also starting to see Christmas cards getting around, we know that some students like to put candy canes in these, students are made aware that they are not allowed to eat these at school, if you reiterate this at home please that would be much appreciated.
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Finally, I would like to say thank you for all of your support since I became 3/4 Deputy in Term 2, it truly has been an absolute pleasure and I have enjoyed every minute of it 😊 Ms Singh will be returning in the New Year however you will still be seeing me around the school. Have a wonderful Christmas break and stay safe.
Thank you all, Ms Carmody.
Prep - Year 2 News from the Deputy

Can you believe it! The end of the 2023 school year is almost here! There are a lot of exhausted little people (and adults) that have worked so incredibly hard this year in all aspects of their schooling life.
Transitions
Transitions have begun to support our students who are moving to a different section of the school. This week the Prep students went over to the JLC to learn about the expectations in the outdoor areas and how to be safe on the stairs and then went upstairs to buddy up with a year 1 class to learn about what is the same and what is different between the prep classrooms and the year 1 classrooms, It was a very exciting time for our Prep students and we were all so proud of the year 1 students who really stepped up to show their younger peers around and answer their questions about year 1. Next week Prep Montessori students will go visit the M1/2 classrooms for the same experience in the classroom.
Year 2 students will participate in a similar transition next week, meeting Ms Carmody and myself in the COLA to talk about their new play spaces, toilets etc and then will head into the year 3 classrooms to meet the teachers and check out their new part of the school.

Thank you and Good bye
We have some staff leaving us from the P-2 space. Rachel Black, who has been our Head of Curriculum for P-2 is headed back to Brisbane for 2024. Thank you Rachel, for the amazing work you have done in our P-2 space, especially preparing our teams ready for the roll our of version 9 of the Australian Curriculum. You will be missed!
Thank you also to Belinda Martin, Kym Blake and Bec Wright who have been with us on Prep, year 2 and year 1. I have really appreciated you all stepping in with enthusiasm and drive to ensure our students have a warm caring environment to learn and grow in all areas of their learning. Thank you so much.
Please have a safe and festive holiday. Enjoy time as a family by putting down devices and really being present with one another. Time goes so quickly so it is important to prioritise what is really important.
Merry Christmas and I look forward to having a Happy New Year in the 2024 school year with you all!
Martina Jackman

Head of Inclusive Education News

As the year comes to a close, we can reflect on what a wonderful year 2023 has been for students supported in the Inclusive Education Centre.
- With regional support, we have worked with PlayMatters and The Benevolent Centre to offer both universal and tailored playgroups for children with developmental concerns in the Inclusive Education Centre 3 days per week.
- We have partnered with The Benevolent Centre to offer the ‘Tuning Into Kids’ parenting program at school to support families in the Northern Beaches.
- Parents and carers have joined school and departmental staff to create a shared vision for inclusion for their child. We hope to continue this in 2024 including all families in this process.
- Our Early Years Pathways program has offered support for children with additional needs in their transition to school, strengthening ties with our community and local early years centres.
- We have supported families to access NDIS therapy supports for their child at school, offering therapy spaces on site for therapy to occur.
- Support staff have participated in high quality professional learning opportunities linked to our Explicit Improvement Agenda such as the recent ‘Know Your Learners Day’ for Prep 2024.
- Our students have engaged in a range of excursions and events including Year 6 Camp camp and student leadership activities, Year 6 Reef Trip, walks to the beach and Holloways EEC, Recycling Centre and Cattana Wetlands, transition to high school, Prep Stay and Play, swimming, interschool sports, visual arts, Presentation Night.
Over the school holidays you might like to talk to your child to prepare them to transition to school in 2024. The Department of Education has some great resources for transition for students with autism (that are great resources for all children) including the online Transition Resource package found here https://autismhub.education.qld.gov.au/resources/online-transition-resource
Thank you to all our families for your continued support during the year, we look forward to strengthening our relationships in 2024.
Have a safe and relaxing holiday,
Samantha Ilic
HEAD OF INCLUSIVE EDUCATION
Year 3-6 Curriculum News from the Head of Deparment

As the year comes to an end, it’s a great time to reflect and look back at all the incredible things that have happened at our school this year. From countless excursions, musicals, and great sporting events it truly has been a year to remember.
On Thursday, I visited 3/4A and was able to read through some amazing reports on countries and some of the sustainability issues that these countries are facing. Well done 3/4A!

I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers who have helped in classrooms, the library or on excursions. Without our volunteers a lot of the activities and events would simply not be able to run. If you would like to volunteer, please see your child’s teacher or the ladies in the office and they will be able to assist you.
Report cards will be emailed out Thursday week 10 (7/12/22). Please make sure you have your details updated. Student report cards will also be able to accessed through Q parents.
As the end of the year approaches, we kindly ask that all borrowed library books are returned by Wednesday week 10.
Thank you all for a fantastic year!
Prep - Year 2 Curriculum News from the Head of Department

As we approach the end of a remarkable year here at Trinity Beach State School. It is with great pride that we reflect on the achievements and growth our Prep to Year 2 students have made this year. Their inquisitive minds have delved into a diverse range of subjects, fostering a love for learning that will undoubtedly serve as a strong foundation for their educational journey ahead. None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our exceptional teaching and support staff. As we bid farewell to 2023, let us celebrate the collective achievements of our school community and eagerly anticipate the promising adventures that lie ahead in 2024. I wish all families a wonderful festive season and happy start to 2024.

Guidance Officer News

Hello everyone!! With the school holidays fast approaching, I’m aware this can be a time of high stress for students. Sometimes, we do not see the impacts of this at school, but you may be seeing it at home.
If you have concerns about your child’s wellbeing over the school holiday period, here are some things you can do.
- Make an appointment with your GP for your child (and you) to attend together. If a face to face appointment is not possible, Telehealth (over the phone) appointments can also be a good option. Discuss your worries with your GP, and see what supports / ideas they can offer. All GPs have training in assessing mental health and wellbeing.
- Link with phone or online services to get some ideas on promoting wellbeing for your child. A range of excellent websites and phone services are available – here are a few links to get you started.
Parentline – phone 1300 301 300 or online at www.parentline.com.au
Kids’ Help Line – phone 1800 551 800 or online at https://kidshelpline.com.au
Beyond Blue – phone 1300 224 636 or https://healthyfamilies.beyondblue.org.au
- Speak with services to get some support for you / your child / children – some options include:
Uniting Care Counselling – Provide 1:1 counselling for children and adults, and can do this at school for children if needed, families can self-refer – Ph 1300 096 203
Centacare counselling – Provide 1:1 counselling for children and adults, and can do this at school for children if needed, families can self-refer – Ph 4044 0130
Act for Kids – Family and Child Connect – Families can engage with this service in order to be linked with appropriate support options for their children – Ph 4033 8500.
Online Safety – how can you make sure your children are safe online?
https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents has excellent information about how to set up parental controls on devices, how to talk with you children (of all ages) about online safety, and how to report any online abuse. There is a link on the website for online reporting of issues, so that they can be investigated or you can be provided with further information about how to proceed.
As a parent, it is vital that you monitor what apps / programs your child is accessing. Most social media platforms are not designed for children, and have age restrictions which should be followed. It is a good protective practice to check devices regularly (for any unsuitable apps or programs).
Have a safe and enjoyable Christmas with your family – we look forward to seeing you all again in 2024 😊
Pause Program
Each week our school has a target Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Focus Behaviour skill to support students. This has seen considerable improvement across our school with students’ ability to positively interact with each other, manage their emotions and support each other.

Q Parents
To continue to streamline the school’s sale for all items – school fees, excursions, performances, instrumental music we are moving to a cashless school. This allows our school to reduce the time, effort and expenses required to collect and follow up payments from parents and students. When you receive an invoice payments can be made online via BPOINT or QParents.
We are proud of being a relatively-cashless school and thank you for moving online with us!
QParents
QP is an online portal helping the school move toward a cashless and paper friendly school.
- The QP portal allows Parents and Carers to grant participation consent online for activities such as swimming and excursions which reduces our need to print out paper consent forms
- Also, the QP portal enables Parents and Carers to make payment online for school activities and viewing unpaid invoices payment history.
Thank you to all those parents who have registered for QParents. This means every registered parent now has the opportunity to access to their children’s student records at their fingertips, anytime, anywhere. Haven’t received an invitation from us yet? There’s still time! Please let us know immediately. Or if you are simply looking for further information, videos and FAQs on QParents, visit https://qparents.qld.edu.au
