Term Overview
We would like to welcome you and your child to what will be an amazing and successful partnership in Prep at Trinity Beach State School. We have an exciting year ahead of us with our Prep students beginning their learning journey at school.
Our Prep teaching team consists of Ms Kaileh Cavenett (Prep A), Ms Darelle Andersen (Prep B), Mrs Angela Buckley (Prep C) and Miss Gayle Kyle (Prep M).
Our Math, Science, English and HASS programs will follow the Australian Curriculum for Foundation Year. Term 1 is a 10 week term, finishing on the Thursday, 28th March.
Our specialist lessons include Music, Visual Arts, Drama, Technology and HPE. These vary across the classes for each Semester.
The assessment schedule for Term 1 is included in this outline. This provides an insight into what your child is learning in class and the corresponding assessment tasks. If you have any questions regarding this please contact your child’s classroom teacher.
Classrooms will open doors at approx. 8.45am in the mornings and the playground is out of bounds before school as there is no supervision in place. Please make sure students are supervised by you until the bell rings at 8.55am. If you arrive at school prior to 8.30am, you must wait in the Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA) until the bell rings.
It is important for every student to have a healthy breakfast before coming to school and a healthy lunch to help maintain focus and maximise learning. Please pack a water and try to avoid juice. If names come off lunchboxes and water bottles, make sure you rename them throughout the year to avoid confusion.
Just a reminder… No hat, no play! Please ensure hats are clearly labelled with name and class. Please also pack a change of spare clothes in your child’s bag every day.
To build a sense of belonging, pride and respect, students are expected to wear their full school uniform -
- No jumpers with hoods or jumpers that are not a dark blue. School jumpers are available at the school uniform shop.
- No jewellery with exception to watches, medical alert bracelets or religious/ memorial references.
- No knee-high colourful socks (Black, blue, white).
- School Hats to be worn (Prep orange hats).
QParents
QP is an online portal helping the school move toward a cashless and paper friendly school.
- The QP portal allows Parents and Carers to grant participation consent online for activities such as swimming and excursions which reduces our need to print out paper consent forms
- Also, the QP portal enables Parents and Carers to make payment online for school activities and viewing unpaid invoices payment history.

How to report an absence:
- Email attendance@trinitybeachss.eq.edu.au or
- Call the school's absence line on 4057 1444, then press #1 and don't forget to leave a reason why your child/children are away, or
- Send a note to the classroom teacher on their return
Our schools attendance target is 95%

English
In this unit, students will listen to and read texts to explore predictable text structures and common visual patterns in a range of literary and non-literary texts. They will engage in many opportunities to learn about language, literature and literacy. Students will retell a familiar story including characters, events and express their likes/dislikes.
Maths
This term we will be covering a range of mathematical concepts.
- Patterning and Algebra – copying and continuing patterns
- Number and place value - count in ones, forwards and backwards from different starting points, identify small collections, connect number names, numerals and quantities, rote count to 10 and beyond.
- Location and transformation - follow and give simple instructions, describe position
Science
Move It Move It - The unit this term is called – On the Move. The students will develop an understanding of how things move. They will explore the push and pull forces they can use to move objects in ways such as sliding, bouncing and spinning. Through investigations, students will observe and gather evidence about rolling objects and explore the idea of fair testing.
HASS
My Family History - This semester students will explore families and their relationships with each other. They will identify who is in their family and learn about their family background and relationships within their family. They will learn how families can be the same or different. Students will identify important events in their own lives. They will identify how they, their families and friends know about their past and commemorate events that are important to them.
Reading/Spelling
Our school continues to embed a whole school approach to reading and spelling across Prep to Year 6. This involves teaching the reading and spelling demands of the Australian Curriculum, providing students with a systematic synthetic phonics approach and unpacking the Big 6/Science of Reading through engaging and meaningful lessons. Students engage with decodable texts when learning to read and rich authentic texts when reading to learn and continue to use the PLD approach for their spelling and sound focus.
Homework
Over the duration of the term, your childs teacher will begin to set small task for homework. These tasks may include letter formation, reading or other tasks that will support your child’s development.
HPE
In PE, students in prep will be involved in a unit that allows them to demonstrate personal and social skills when working with others in a range of activities. In Health, students will recognise how they are growing and changing and will identify actions that help them be healthy.
Music
In this unit, students will become aware of rhythm, pitch, dynamics and tempo. They will develop their singing voices, play percussion instruments and learn to listen as performers and as audience. Students will listen and analyse a variety of musical pieces from different cultures and times.
Visual Arts
This term in Visual Arts, Prep students will view various famous artworks that also relate to characters in books and animated cartoons. Students will explore ideas, experiences, observations, and imagination to recreate the subject of the artwork by crafting. They will use and experiment with different materials, techniques, and processes to make artworks.
Drama
Stories Come to Life; ‘Journey’
Students make and respond to drama by using the picture book ‘Journey’ as a stimulus as they bring the characters to life with voice, movement and improvisations for performance.
Technology
Students step into the shoes of a Fairytale character to make a designed or digital solution. to assist them in a time of need.
- Rapunzel and Little Red Riding Hood: Exploring how local delivery services meet different needs for people eg/ online shopping items arrive at a person’s home, exploring digital hardware and software.
- 3 Little Pigs: Compare the houses built by the pigs and discuss the properties of the materials.
- Hanzel & Gretal – Students identify the different food that covers the Gingerbread house. Students sort it and display the data in different way.

Tuckshop
Tuckshop operates daily during the two breaks. Orders can be placed online via FlexiSchools or at the tuckshop on a paper bag. Tuckshop orders are placed in class tuckshop basket before 9am. Miscellaneous items can be purchased over the counter. Please talk to your child about not giving money away or sharing food.
