Prinicpal Message

As we reach the end of another exciting term, we are proud to celebrate the achievements of our students. Throughout the past months, our classrooms have been buzzing with enthusiasm about measuring our success with our Making Learning Visible walls. All classes led by their teachers, have worked really hard to complete end of semester assessments and report cards are almost ready for completion. All reports cards will be emailed out to families next Thursday. Please be on the lookout for an email from the following address: application@oneschool.eq.edu.au .
Earlier this week, the pyjama disco was held and was a fantastic event. Our students had a great time dancing to their favourite songs and enjoying the fun activities organised by our school councillors. Thank you to all parents who came along and also supported out event.
Thank you to all our families who joined us for our Prep Connect session. It was a wonderful morning of activities shared by all.
Our annual Athletics Carnival has been planned for next week. The weather looks promising for the week of sport on the oval. Keep a look out for our posts on Facebook detailing days and times.
A big thank you to our whole school community – staff, students and parents for your support of our school. Every success is due to the individual and team efforts from everyone!
Have a happy and safe holiday period.

Newsletter
What an amazing term we have had! I can not believe that we are half way through the 2024 school year already!
Prep Connect
What a wonderful morning we had celebrating our Prep families. Prep Connect is all about thanking our family members and carers who have helped our Prep students have a wonderful start to their school life. It is so hard to believe they are 6 months in!
Thank you to our Prep team as well for making this spectacular event so successful.
Disco
Did you get your PJ on? The disco was a heap of fun. Thanks to the Student Council for organising this fun Pyjama filled event!
Year 1 Cultural Morning
Today, I got the opportunity to watch the year 1 students present their cultural dances and songs to their families. They have been working so hard in class to learn their songs and dances and it was so special to be able to see them up on the stage, under the lights.
Thank you and well done to the year 1 teachers for making this great event come to life!
Athletics Carnival
Next Thursday is our Junior Sports Carnival. The weather is spectacular! So please come along and cheer for your child and their team!
Students will arrive from their classroom to the oval at 9.10am and will then sit in their house tents. Students will then give their war cries prior to the start of the sprints.
Sprints start approximately at 9.30am but please be earlier than that so that you don’t miss your child/ren race.
Field and novelty events start from 12pm
Swimming
Information and invoices have been sent out regarding swimming for early next term. An exact timetable for this will be sent home shortly. If you have QParents you are able to give consent through the app. If you do not have QParents, a hard copy consent form will be sent home with your child.
POD Squad
Earlier this term I attended the Early Years Conference here in Cairns. One of the workshops that I attended included information about an app called POD Squad. This app was developed by the Qld Government and is a FREE play-based app that explores nutrition, physical activity and wellbeing. I have attached a flyer below if you are interested in downloading. I have trialled it with my 6 year old and he has really enjoyed the app including the physical challenges it sets.

Have a wonderful holiday break. Soak up the sun and enjoy time as a family. See you all in Term 3.

News from the Year 3 - 6 Deputy Principal

Welcome to Week 9. What an exciting time of Term 2 it is with the assessment period ending and our School Sport Carnivals to look forward to next week!
YOUNG SCHOLARS
Our Young Scholars are completing their Term 2 projects and rotations. The ‘Philosophon’ competition at JCU between our Philosophy in Action students, Caravonica SS & Yorkeys Knob SS is always a highlight of the term. Offers for places in Semester 2 will occur the first week of Term 3. Placement in Semester 1 does not guarantee a place in Semester 2. Offers are made based on academic performance, meeting high standards of behaviour and attendance.
REPORT CARDS
Report cards will be emailed out in Week 10. Mid year is when you receive a formalised update on how your children have progressed through the first half of the school year. It is an opportunity to see all the hard work they have been doing throughout this time and to celebrate their achievements. Please take this time to discuss your child’s learning with them and engage in rich conversations regarding this and discuss what their focus may be moving into the second half of the year.
COMMUNICATION
Our teachers are dedicated to keeping the line of communication open with parents and students. Please do not hesitate to book an appointment with your child’s class teacher should you wish to discuss anything with them. Our teachers are often busy preparing for the day before school so they may not be able to give you the time you need if you show up unexpected to have these discussions but by making an appointment, this ensures the necessary time is available to do this with fidelity.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Week 3 next term will see our year 5’s heading off to Holloways Beach Environment Education Centre. Students study marine life and their adaptations that enable them to live in our tropical environment. Students then create a creature with its own adaptations and create an online news article about this ‘new species’.
Our Year 6 students also have camp coming up in Week 10. Consent forms have gone out via QParents – if you are yet to see one please contact your child’s teacher. As our school leaders, this camp provides an opportunity for our Year 6 students to develop not only their leadership skills but also independence and resilience, important skills as they begin the journey into high school.
Year 3 students will be heading to the beach. They will focus on how the five senses can be used to describe the setting, atmosphere and action observed at Trinity Breach. Students then write poems about their time at the beach.
FAREWELL
I am excited to let you know that I will be taking leave for 12 months to travel around Australia. Ms Shannyn McMillan will be replacing me during this period. Ms McMillan comes to us from Cairns School of Distance Education and is looking forward to getting to know our students and the school & parent community.
Have a wonderful winter break, stay safe and I hope you get some quality family time throughout this period.

News from the Wellbeing, Engagement & Inclusion Deputy Principal

As we approach the end of Term 2, we have an exciting event to anticipate: our school athletics carnival next week! The Student Engagement Team will be actively supporting students both on and off the field, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.
Our Student Engagement Team plays a role in fostering a positive learning environment. They work with a diverse range of students to ensure their successful engagement in the classroom and their respectful interaction with others on the playground. With a commitment to monitoring student engagement, addressing any concerns, and supporting teachers in maintaining a conducive learning atmosphere, the team remains dedicated to enhancing the overall educational experience.
In addition to our ongoing efforts, our team has been leading the "Step It Up" initiative, which aims to reengage students in learning while giving back to our school community. A number of projects are nearing completion and will be revealed throughout next term, so stay tuned for updates!
Youth Support Workers play a vital role in supporting both students and teachers throughout the school day. In addition to their classroom and lunchtime support, they facilitate various mentoring groups, including Girls' Group and Boys' Group. These groups provide valuable opportunities for students to develop social skills and engage in social and emotional learning activities.
Let’s not forget to thank our dedicated teachers who generously volunteer their lunch breaks to run Focus Clubs as an alternative place to hang, to create and be active with their friends, while making new friends. Clubs on offer are Hoop Club, Netball Club, Craft Club, Crochet Club, Lego Club, Garden Club, Drawing Club, and many others. Ask your students about it, no doubt they have been to one of our many Focus Clubs!
If I don’t see you before than, have an awesome holiday and see everyone again next term.

News from the Head of Inclusive Education

Each year school staff collect information and data about students with disability at school. At the beginning of Term 3, teachers come together to moderate and finalise NCCD data for our school. An important part of this process is sharing information about NCCD with our families.

What is the NCCD?
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) takes place every year. All schools in Australia must collect information about students with disability. The NCCD is a collection that counts:
- the number of school students receiving an adjustment or ‘help’ due to disability
- the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students
- the broad category of disability according to the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA).
Students are counted in the NCCD if they receive ongoing adjustments at school due to disability. This ‘help’ allows them to access education on the same basis as a child without disability. The NCCD uses the definition of disability in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. Schools provide this information to education authorities in August each year.
What is a reasonable adjustment?
An adjustment is an action to help a student with disability take part in education on the same basis as other students. Adjustments can be made across the whole school (eg ramps into school buildings). They can be in the classroom (eg adapting teaching methods). They can also be for individual student need (eg providing personal care support). The school assesses the needs of each student with disability and provides adjustments in consultation with the student and/or their parents, guardians and carers. The Disability Standards for Education 2005 define ‘reasonable adjustment’ as an adjustment that balances the interests of all parties affected.
How is NCCD data used?
The NCCD data informs funding and work by schools and sectors. It ensures that support for students with disability becomes routine in the day-to-day practice of schools. The NCCD also supports students in the following ways:
- The NCCD helps schools better understand their legislative obligations and the Disability Standards for Education 2005.
- Schools focus on the individual adjustments that support students with disability. This encourages them to reflect on students’ needs and to better support students.
- The NCCD facilitates a collaborative and coordinated approach to supporting students with disability. It also encourages improvements in school documentation.
- The NCCD improves communication about students’ needs between schools, parents, guardians, carers and the community.
You can find additional information about the NCCD on the NCCD Portal https://www.nccd.edu.au/ If you have any additional queries or questions about the NCCD, please contact me by phone on 40571444 or email silic2@eq.edu.au

What a busy term we’ve had at Trinity Beach this term!
With one week to go assessments have now been complete and our amazing teachers are finalising their reports to be sent home via email on the Thursday of week 10 (20/06/23). Please ensure your contact details are up to date with our admin staff.
Next semester, your child/ren will continue to work through their year level of the Australian Curriculum with their classroom teachers as well as experiencing new learning with their specialist teachers.
Swimming will also take place in Term 3. Please ensure you have paid and have given your child/ren permission to participate in swimming lessons. A timetable for when each class will participate in swimming lessons will be sent out Monday week 1.
I hope all our students have a fantastic holiday and come back to school ready to learn!
News from the Guidance Officer

One of the best ways to support the wellbeing of young people is to engage them in sporting activities. This can be quite expensive for some sports, given the cost of registration, equipment and uniforms (as well as travel for some sports).
The QLD government have vouchers available to assist with the cost of sport for children – these are called Fair Play Vouchers. The next round of funding for these vouchers starts on 1st July, 2024, with the vouchers now worth $200. If you would like to apply for one of these vouchers, you can do this online via the link below:
https://www.qld.gov.au/recreation/sports/funding/fairplay/apply
If you’re not sure how to navigate this process, or would prefer to work with a person to source this, a Referral Agent can help you. There are people who work as referral agents who are involved with a number of sporting teams, as well as people who work for government organisations and schools.
At our school, I am a referral agent – and can help you apply for a Fair Play Voucher if you would like this support.
Email me at jferg53@eq.edu.qau to make a time to meet or chat over the phone.
Defence School Mentor Program (DSMP)

My role as a DSM is to monitor Defence students emotional and social wellbeing and offer any additional support to the student. This may include:
- support with changing schools,
- integrating into the school community,
- support during parental absence,
- assisting in an activity that they find stressful,
- helping to re-enter the classroom calmly after lunchtime or;
- simply having a safe time-out space.
Every Friday during first and second break I give students the option to attend the Defence Kids Club where they can interact and meet other students part of Defence families who range from prep – year 6.
Have you heard of the Education Assistance Scheme?
We know that Defence children experience disruption to their education each time they move for a posting.
To assist with this disruption, Defence offers financial support for:
- tutoring
- tuition and boarding school allowance
- tertiary accommodation
- loss of scholarship compensation
- reunion travel
More information can be found in the ADF Pay and Conditions Manual.

Q Parents
To continue to streamline the school’s sale for all items – school fees, excursions, performances, instrumental music we are moving to a cashless school. This allows our school to reduce the time, effort and expenses required to collect and follow up payments from parents and students. When you receive an invoice payments can be made online via BPOINT or QParents.
We are proud of being a relatively-cashless school and thank you for moving online with us!
QParents
QP is an online portal helping the school move toward a cashless and paper friendly school.
- The QP portal allows Parents and Carers to grant participation consent online for activities such as swimming and excursions which reduces our need to print out paper consent forms
- Also, the QP portal enables Parents and Carers to make payment online for school activities and viewing unpaid invoices payment history.
Thank you to all those parents who have registered for QParents. This means every registered parent now has the opportunity to access to their children’s student records at their fingertips, anytime, anywhere. Haven’t received an invitation from us yet? There’s still time! Please let us know immediately. Or if you are simply looking for further information, videos and FAQs on QParents, visit https://qparents.qld.edu.au

Making Learning Visible | 4B Mrs Hopkins
Today Eloise was using 4B’s English Learning Wall to explain how she was comprehending and analysing poetic devices. Eloise was very articulate and clearly understood her next steps and goals. This research aligned strategy and approach is being rolled out across our school.

5C Students have been creating action plans based on engagement data from lunch breaks. In the Learning Area HASS students today presented their ideas, costing and plans to Mr Hollis. From playground ideas to volleyball courts, students have a range of ideas to increase lunchtime engagement. Let’s hope the rain eases to support their plans.

Prep A Superstars reading out loud their recount of a true story to the Principal. Awesome work Daisy, Ethan, Gurtaaj and Sonny. Mr Hollis loves visits from our Prep champions.

3C Mrs Stanfield-Roche students Making Learning Visible | Ruby and Freddie shared with Mr Hollis their writing samples today and what their English goals are. Students are creating imaginative narratives based on the novel Matty Forever.Freddie was able to explain his focus on using noun groups to enhance his writing while Ruby is extending her vocabulary and handwriting formation. This work forms our Priority 1 - Making Learning Visible in our classrooms across the school. Thank you to our teachers for their on going commitment to improving student learning outcomes…

2C worked in groups with our Pre-Service teacher, Mr Churches, to piece together different life cycles. Students then worked as a team to describe the changes each living thing goes through as it completes it’s life cycle. Miss Harper’s favourite question was “Miss Harper, which comes first – the butterfly or the egg?”

Multi-Sensory fun in Prep C.
Prep C spent Friday consolidating their learning (aka having fun) through shaving cream sentences, glitter words and developing their oral language with playdoh monsters. Age appropriate teaching and activities allow our students to thrive in their learning!! Great Job Prep C!

Montessori Prep Maths progression.
In the Montessori classroom the children work though the curriculum at their pace, some children are pointing and counting numbers to 10, others are building and counting through teen numbers to 19. These photos show the sequence in the room so far this year - number rods, spindle box, cards and counters, building the teen numbers with beads and building teen numbers with beads, boards and cards. The children’s house offers support of mathematical concepts and nurtures the development of the mathematical mind in a systematic, ordered and knowledgeable way. Montessori maths is sequential, progressive, structured, comprehensive, integrated and hands on. It begins with concrete hands-on materials, using precise language and self-discovery, leading to an abstract understanding of the nature of the decimal system at an early age, moving towards the goal of mastery of each stage.

Making Learning Visible | Our teachers and leaders have a common goal to make every classroom more impactful and every teacher more empowered. Our students are engaging in rich self reflection and goal setting as a result of our improvement priorities based on the work of Lyn Sharratt and her research guided by the text ‘Clarity, 2018’.

Prioritising student wellbeing, engagement and inclusion for all students | Priority 2
Each term our school leadership team dedicate time to walk-through our classrooms focussing on key elements of classroom practice. Our teachers are doing an amazing job of unpacking school-wide focus skills, setting up positive ready to learn plans while enhancing social emotional learning opportunities for all students. Students and teachers use this rich print environment to guide their focus.
There is an incredibly calm and respectful tone within our school due to this priority. It is pleasing to observe the consistency across all of our classrooms. We are so lucky to have such passionate teachers who place students at the centre of their work!
Thank you to Ms Singh Deputy Principal - Wellbeing, Engagement & Inclusion and Mrs Wilson Student Engagement Teacher for supporting our team with this high quality and important work

Prep C - Outdoor LearningWith our beautiful winter weather, Prep C ventured outside to write some sentences inspired by what we could see, hear, feel, smell. Their only instruction was to use their senses, think of a sentence and write.
This is some of what they came up with.
