For information about specific events please keep a look out on the Trinity Beach State School Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/trinitybeachss/
This term, all year levels will be participating in swimming lessons. Each class has been allocated a week in which they will participate in 4 lessons. A detailed timetable has been sent to families. Students in Year 6 will also attend Camp Paterson this term, information regarding this was sent out last term. Any further communication regarding preparations will be sent to parents via the regular methods.
To ensure a smooth start to the term, please check to see if your child needs any additional equipment, such as stationary or uniforms and ensure that these are named to reduce the risk of losing them.
We hope that this term is a successful term. As always, if you have any questions about your child’s progress or if you have any concerns your first point of contact is your child’s teacher. The contact details for all the teachers are listed in the “Contact Information” section.
English
In this Term 3 English unit, students will create imaginative, historical narratives about child migrants in Australia, incorporating complex events and diverse characters, and then turn these narratives into narrated e-books for class presentations. Students will develop their skills in interacting with others, creating spoken and multimodal texts, using and varying text structures, and employing language features and literary devices. The unit aims to enhance their ability to share, develop, and elaborate on ideas for specific purposes and audiences. |
Maths
Students are learning various important Mathematical concepts. They will develop their understanding of number and place value by solving problems using the order of operations and applying both mental and written strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. They will also learn to multiply and divide using different methods, including standard algorithms. In patterns and algebra, students will use the order of operations to solve problems more efficiently. In the area of measurement, students will connect decimals to the metric system, convert between different units of measure, compare lengths, and solve problems related to length, area, volume, and capacity. They will also learn to compare lengths and areas in various contexts. When studying shapes, students will engage in problem-solving and reasoning to create nets and construct models of simple prisms and pyramids. In geometric reasoning, they will learn to measure and describe angles, make generalizations about angles on a straight line, angles at a point, and vertically opposite angles, and apply these concepts to real-life situations. |
Science
In the Year 6 Science Unit on Electricity and Circuits, students will explore how energy moves through electrical circuits, understand the role of different components, and learn about insulators and conductors. They will discover how scientific advancements often result from collaboration. The unit includes planning and conducting investigations, safely using equipment, and recording data accurately. A highlight will be using a Makey Makey to create an interactive poster. Through these activities, students will gain a deeper understanding of electrical circuits, scientific collaboration, and safe investigation practices, while emphasizing teamwork and communication skills. |
Humanities & Social Sciences (HASS)
In Term 3, students will explore the geographical diversity and significance of our Asian neighbours. The unit focuses on understanding the diverse characteristics, locations, and interconnections of countries in Asia with Australia. Students will engage in various activities such as mapping, researching, and analysing the climate, population, and cultural features of Asian countries. They will also investigate Australia's economic and social connections with Asia, learning about trade relationships and global interactions. Additionally, students will create a mock website designed to assist others in learning about their chosen Asian country, showcasing their research and findings creatively. The unit includes interactive lessons, group activities, and an assessment task where students will research and present their chosen country's details. This comprehensive
Health & Physical education (HPE)
In PE, students in Year Six will learn how to be physically fit through a fitness unit. In Health, students will explore the feelings, challenges and issues associated with making the transition to secondary school. They will devise strategies to assist them in making a smooth transition.
Music
During Term Three, students will learn about major and minor modes, quaver rest, bouncy rhythm, syncopation, tied notes and brass instruments. They will learn a number of songs and games, listen to and analyse a range of musical pieces.
Technology
Students investigate the internal and external components of a digital system and how they interact and transmit data. Students create a concept map to show their understanding of a school network and the connections required to transmit data. Students research occupations in design technologies and the steps they consider with designing a solution. Students find out what sustainability means and why it is important for design technology. Knowledge is shared with the students regarding the design solutions; products, services, environment they will use to create/modify/adapt to meet user needs at home or at school. Students use design and system thinking in creating their design solution, plan and present a proposal to leadership and parents using a digital tool.
Drama
Students participate in improvisation games in a theatre sports competition in front of a Year 5 audience. They reflect on their own and others’ improvisational skills, develop basic improvisational skills and review improvisation terms. |
Inclusive Education
Welcome to our year 5 and 6 IEC students for an exciting and busy Term 3 of 2024.
Classroom Expectations & School Rules – Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be a Learner
Our school rules underpin everything we do in our year 5 and 6 IEC classroom! Our three rules are to be Safe, be Respectful and be a Learner in the IEC, in our classroom and in the playground and everyday. In the IEC, when students are making positive choices, they can earn a trinity dollar or a smiley face on their reward chart. Once their chart has been filled, then a reward is given.
Classroom Routines
Students who attend IEC intervention will be given a draft support timetable early in Week 1. Once support timetables are finalised, a laminated copy with be redistributed to students in their classrooms for them to refer too. This helps students to know where they are each session and to practise the skill of following their timetable in preparation for high school.
Excursions, Swimming and Camps – Term 3
Please return all permission forms, or grant permission via QParents and make payments for excursions and camp before Week 3.
Year 6 – Camp Paterson – Week 3 (see dates provided for your child and their class).
Swimming for Years 6 – From Week 4 to Week 7. Please keep a lookout for your child’s class timetable.

Students engage with decodable texts when learning to read and rich authentic texts when reading to learn and continue to use the PLD approach for their spelling and sound focus.
