News from the Prep - Year 2 Deputy Principal

Welcome to term 3!
It is hard to believe we are over halfway through the school year already.
Term 3 is always a busy term with lots of things happening in our school and this year is no different. We kicked off the term with our NAIDOC celebrations which were a lot of fun! Thanks to Ms Jo Twine and the teacher aides, Kylie, Nadine, Sue, Julia and Sarah for organising such a wonderful parade and activities for our students. On the same day as the parade, the Prep students celebrated 100 days of attending Prep, with the theme “100 days brighter” This was a wonderful session and thanks to the Prep team, Kaileh and Tracey, Darelle and Lee, Angela and Harmony/Janelle and Gayle and Sue.
We have already kicked off Swimming for this year with 3 prep classes participating this week! If you have not already sorted permission and payment for swimming, please do so asap via QParents or at the front office.
Prep enrolments for 2025
This term is the start of all the Prep 2025 events and information sessions. If you, or anyone you know, has a child born between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2020, they are able to enrol for Prep in 2025. I encourage you to complete the enrolment paperwork (either online at our webpage or pick up a pack at the office) and submit it to our office to get on the communication network for all events including enrolment interviews, stay and plays, Prep information school tours etc.
Trinity Beach State School is a brilliant school, and I would encourage anyone with a child ready to start Prep in 2025 to come along to a Prep information school tour and see what our school has to offer.

Book Week
Book week is in week 7 of this term (19th- 23rd of August). We have planned a number of exciting events happening through out the week including our annual “Come dressed as your favourite book character” parade on Thursday 22nd of August at 9.30am. Other events will include a colouring competition for Prep and Year 1, Short story competition for lower, middle and upper students, “Our class book – doors to your imagination” - classroom door/window decorating based on a class read book” and many more. There will also be a Book Fair running in the library during this week.
We are very excited to host our inaugural “Bedtime Stories” evening for our P-2 students. Parents and children under the age of 8 (younger siblings welcome!) are invited to come along in their pyjamas to a wonderful evening on Tuesday, August 20th from 5-6pm at the school. (We will meet in the Prep area to start.) Parents and children will rotate between 4-5 different classrooms with 1-2 teachers in each room and listen to a number of different books before finishing with a warm Milo, a biscuit and then heading off to bed (at home- not at school!)
More information will be shared via Facebook and through classrooms regarding all upcoming events for Book Week
Have a wonderful week

News from the Year 3 - 6 Deputy Principal

Welcome back to Semester 2!
What an eventful start to the new term we have had with NAIDOC week celebrations, engaging in new units of work and preparing for camps, excursions and activities. Senior Primary have settled in well and are demonstrating their commitment to learning which we look forward to continuing throughout the year.
So, what is happening?
Swimming
First off the blocks for our swimming program this Term in week 2 were classes from Prep, 1 and 2, and year 3 who have braved the cold snap to upskill in their water safety knowledge. The swimming program will continue from week 2 through to the end of week 7.
Year 6 Camp
Excitement is building around our adventure to Camp Paterson next week, where students will have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities which aim to build skills in cooperation, teamwork, decision making, trust, and leadership, all while having fun with their peers and teachers.
Year 5 Holloways Beach Excursion
We have our year 5s gearing up for an exciting exploration to Holloways Beach where they will participate in a boating activity with a focus on plant and animal adaptations. Students will also undertake the inspection and identification of mangrove animals and mangrove plants, fishing, crabbing and water quality testing, map reading, tides and moon phases, bird identification, crocodile spotting and an aquarium session.
Young Scholars Program
The year 5 and 6 Semester 2 Young Scholars were excited to begin their programs on Thursday of week 2 where they are participating in subjects including:
- Philosophy in Action
- Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow
- Environment and Sustainability
- Adventures in Science
- Makerspace (STEM)
The program has been established through the Tropical North Learning Academy (TNLA) which is a strategic partnership between Trinity Beach State School, Smithfield State High School and James Cook University, and sees our students engaging in 21st century skills to enhance their love for learning.

News from the Wellbeing, Engagement & Inclusion Deputy Principal

Welcome back to term 3! I hope all families had a lovely holiday period.
If you and your family are new to our school, welcome! My role in the school is to support students, teachers and families in the areas of wellbeing, engagement and inclusion. Please reach out if you need some support or information.
I have added some information below of a topical nature that are at present impacting on students.
Understanding of Anxiety
Anxiety is a combination of stress (in your body) and worry (in your mind). Sometimes anxiety gets in the way of everyday things like talking to people or going to new or different places, being around friends or family, going to school or doing fun things. Video link on anxiety.
Kids Helpline has some great resources for children and parents to view and read.
Talking with your child about bullying
Bullying has three key features. It involves:
- a misuse of power in a relationship
- intentional, ongoing and repeated actions
- behaviours that can cause harm
It is important to understand if bullying is happening or is someone being rude or mean.
At Trinity Beach, we focus on teaching all students to use the High 5.
Resources for parents click here.

CyberSafety - Information for parents
To help keep your child safe when they are online, you can:
- put computers in open spaces within your home
- remind your child that content can be posted instantaneously, the downfall is that they can potentially post something without thinking about the ramifications.
- educate your child about appropriate online behaviour and the need for respectful communication with other internet users
- keep an eye on what your child is doing online (both in the home and on any mobile devices they may have access to e.g. phones, music devices and tablets)
- set clear rules about what sites and activities they are allowed to access
- install software to limit their use and monitor/restrict the sites they visit
- discuss a plan with your child about how to address any cybersafety issues that may arise (make sure they know you will be supportive if they mention anything and that they will not get in trouble)
- encourage them to find someone they feel safe talking to, such as yourself, a relative, a teacher or a trusted adult.
Access Online awareness: Information for parents and caregivers which provides important information for parents about cybersafety and cyberbullying. It suggests what parents and caregivers could do if their child is the target of, or is responsible for, inappropriate online behaviour.
The Office of the eSafety Commissioner also provide a suite of resources, helping Australians to have safer, more positive experiences online. In particular, there is a parent page which provides advice for parents and carers, along with a blogposts page which currently contains information about staying safe online during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through the Alannah & Madeline Foundation’s Digitalk resource, parents can also access resources developed to help children and young people, and the people who care for them to reduce their risk of exposure to online harm and empower them to successfully and safely navigate the digital world.
News from the Head of Inclusive Education

We are into the early stages of Term 3, a time we consider the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) that occurs in schools every year in August. The NCCD is an annual count of students who are being provided with adjustments to address disability. All Australian schools and approved authorities for schools participate in the NCCD annually.
As a parent, guardian or carer, what do you need to know about NCCD?
As parents, guardians and carers, you have an important role in your child’s education. Working collaboratively with the school to ensure that the school understands your child’s needs and that appropriate adjustments are made to enable access to education is essential to engage your child in learning.
Under the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and the Disability Standards for Education (2005), schools have an obligation to ensure that students with disability are able to access and participate in school on the same basis as their peers. To ensure this, students with disability may receive adjustments or support, depending on their functional needs, to access and participate in education. School staff use their professional judgement to select a level of adjustment and broad category of disability for students who meet NCCCD eligibility criteria.
If you would like to learn more about the NCCD, further information can be found on the NCCD portal https://www.nccd.edu.au and you can access the Fact sheets for parents, guardians and carers about the NCCD here.

News from the Head of Department Curriculum Prep - Year 6

It’s great to see all of our students back after their break ready to engage in learning!
Term curriculum overviews from each year level will be sent to all families, these provide a snap shot of what students are learning in class. An assessment schedule is also included in the overview so parents and carers are aware of when students will have assessment tasks occurring throughout the term.
Our swimming program for 2024 has begun, please ensure you have paid and given permission for your child to attend. A detailed timetable for when each class has their lesson has been shared on Facebook as well as on the information letter.
Over the past fortnight in teacher planning meetings, our teachers have been reviewing our academic results for each Semester 1 to evaluate our teaching and assessments as well as identifying any gaps in student knowledge that will require additional teaching before the end of the year. As always, if you are concerned about your child’s progress, the first point of contact is the classroom teacher.

Q Parents
To continue to streamline the school’s sale for all items – school fees, excursions, performances, instrumental music we are moving to a cashless school. This allows our school to reduce the time, effort and expenses required to collect and follow up payments from parents and students. When you receive an invoice payments can be made online via BPOINT or QParents.
We are proud of being a relatively-cashless school and thank you for moving online with us!
QParents
QP is an online portal helping the school move toward a cashless and paper friendly school.
- The QP portal allows Parents and Carers to grant participation consent online for activities such as swimming and excursions which reduces our need to print out paper consent forms
- Also, the QP portal enables Parents and Carers to make payment online for school activities and viewing unpaid invoices payment history.
Thank you to all those parents who have registered for QParents. This means every registered parent now has the opportunity to access to their children’s student records at their fingertips, anytime, anywhere. Haven’t received an invitation from us yet? There’s still time! Please let us know immediately. Or if you are simply looking for further information, videos and FAQs on QParents, visit https://qparents.qld.edu.au

Around the Classroom
1C have a “Bee Kind” jar in their classroom. Every time a student is heard being kind or doing something kind, they add a bee to the jar. Tommy had an idea for 1C to donate "happy and cool" band aids to the children at Cairns Base Hospital. It’s a wonderful initiative! It not only spreads kindness but also brings joy and comfort to those who might be going through tough times. Initiatives like these not only help cheer up the children at the hospital but also inspire others to be kind and thoughtful in their own ways. It's a great example of how small acts of kindness can have a ripple effect, making the world a better place one gesture at a time.
