Principal Message
Term 3 Newsletter
Thank you
Congratulations to all staff, students, and families for a successful and productive Term 3! Your commitment to supporting our educational journey and engaging with our staff has been invaluable in maximising learning outcomes.
Priority 1: Making Learning Visible through High Impact Teaching Practices
Research shows that improving educational achievement is most effectively achieved through high-impact teaching practices. I am incredibly proud of the strides our teachers and school leaders are making in this area. Each term, I conduct walkthroughs and formal observations to assess and support our teaching strategies, ensuring they are continually refined to enhance student achievement.
This term, we have continued to focused on the work of Lyn Sharratt and the Five Questions framework to gauge how well our students are progressing in their English learning. We are pleased to report a notable school-wide improvement in English academic achievement as a result of these efforts.
Lyn Sharratt’s framework for student engagement revolves around five key questions designed to enhance clarity and focus in learning. Here’s a summary of each question:
- What are we learning?
Summary: This question helps students understand the specific goals and objectives of their lessons. It ensures they are aware of what they are expected to learn and why it is important. - How will we know if we are learning?
Summary: This question focuses on helping students understand how their progress will be measured. It clarifies the criteria and indicators they will use to assess their own learning and performance. - What will we do if we don’t understand?
Summary: This question provides students with strategies for seeking help and addressing difficulties. It encourages them to know what steps to take if they encounter challenges in understanding the material. - What will we do if we already know this?
Summary: This question prompts students to consider how they can extend or deepen their learning if they already grasp the content. It encourages them to seek additional challenges or advanced work. - How will we keep learning?
Summary: This question emphasises the importance of maintaining and reinforcing learning over time. It encourages students to think about how they can continue to apply and build upon what they’ve learned in future lessons and activities.

These questions are designed to foster student ownership of their learning, promote self-assessment, and encourage continuous engagement with the educational process.
This is an exciting time for learning for everyone!
Enjoy the Break!
Wishing everyone a safe, restful, and relaxing holiday. We look forward to welcoming all students back to school on 30 September. Please remind your children that the school grounds are closed during the holiday period. Have a wonderful break!

News from the Prep - Year 2 Deputy Principal

Can you believe we are the end of term 3 already!!
Parent teacher interviews
Thank you to all the families that booked in to have a parent teacher interview. Communication between home and school is the key to success for all our students. If you somehow missed this opportunity, please contact your child’s teacher to arrange a mutually agreeable time to discuss your child’s progress.
Under 8s Day
Next Friday (13th of September) Trinity Beach State School will be hosting our annual Under 8s day extravaganza. This is a massive morning celebrating everything that is great about being under 8. All our P-2 students will be participating, and we warmly welcome families to bring their 0-5 children along to join in the fun.
A huge acknowledgement to Shannon Hanley and Nicky Passfield for leading the work to make this day happen.
There will be an enrolment stall on site for those families who have not yet completed and submitted their enrolment forms for Prep 2025.
Enrolments and Stay and Play
The enrolment process for Prep 2025 is well underway and we have Stay and Play events happening in term 4. In order to book your child in for these sessions, enrolment paperwork needs to be handed into the school office. If you have a child who is eligible for Prep in 2025, please drop into the office for an enrolment pack or download it from the school website. I would not like any eligible pre-prep student to miss out on this wonderful transition opportunity.
Have a safe and happy September holiday break

News from the Year 3 - 6 Deputy Principal

End of Term 3!
First of all, a big well done to students, staff and our wider school community for an exciting and eventful term. With so many events, activities, and celebrations of success both within and outside the classroom, this time has flown by!
What has been happening?
Year 3 Beach Excursion and Poetry Presentations:
Our year 3 students finally got to enjoy the sea breeze by venturing down to the beach front to see, smell, taste and hear everything that the beautiful location has to offer. This helped the students to generate ideas for their senses poem which they enthusiastically wrote down in their activity booklets before enjoying some free time to explore and have fun in the sand.

From here, students took this work back to the classroom and over the weeks developed an original senses poem which they even included actions for to engage their peers during presentations. Great job grade 3 😊

Bring Your Own Device 2025 - BYOx:
On Thursday 22nd of August we held a parent/carer information session for 2025 year 5 and 6 BYOx classes. In 2025 BYOx classes in year 5 will be catered to through expression of interest and year 6 classes will all remain as BYOx. Further information will be distributed in the final week of Term 3 for families who were unable to make the information evening, and we will also run a technical information session on Thursday of week 4 in Term 4.
Book Week:
We also had lots of exciting events happening across the school with Book Week. These included story and colouring competitions, Bedtime Stories where our Preps enjoyed an evening of stories followed by a Milo and a cookie (or 2.. or 3 😊), a P-6 dress up day and parade, and some of our talented senior school members entertained the P-2s with a fractured Fairy Tale. All lots of fun!

To round out the term:
On Wednesday afternoon/evening our students enjoyed a disco to have fun with their friends and celebrate the (almost) close to the term. There was plenty of laughter, dancing and fun all around 😊

News from the Wellbeing, Engagement & Inclusion Deputy Principal

Youth Worker Recruitment Process
I am pleased to inform you that the recruitment process for the youth worker position has been successfully completed. We are excited to announce that Bruno Da Silva has been selected as the successful applicant and will be joining our team in Week 1 of Term 4.
I would also like to extend a sincere thank you to Scott Gedge, who has been filling this role since the beginning of the year. His dedication and support have made a significant impact on our students, and we are incredibly grateful for his contribution to our school community.
A Healthy Start for a Great School Day, Everyday
We want to remind all parents about the importance of a healthy start to the day for your children. Ensuring they eat a nutritious breakfast before coming to school helps set them up for success, providing the energy they need to stay focused and engaged in their learning. In addition, packing a balanced, healthy lunch and snacks for both breaks is essential to maintain their energy and concentration throughout the school day. A well-fuelled body helps children stay focused in lessons, make good decisions, and perform at their best. Let’s work together to support their health and well-being!
The Healthy Eating Advisory Service have prepared the following resources to help with packing a healthy lunchbox. Click on the link here.
A reminder to all parents, that we have fridges located in all classrooms in our school.
Taste.com have 978 lunch box ideas! You can try some of these over the holiday break. 😊
You can find those ideas here.
The Importance of a Good Night's Sleep
A good night’s sleep is essential for every child to be ready for a productive day of learning. We encourage all parents to help their children get enough rest by setting regular bedtimes and limiting screen time before bed. Reducing the use of phones, tablets, and other devices in the evening helps children unwind and improves the quality of their sleep. Well-rested children are more focused, alert, and ready to absorb new information, which helps them perform better academically and make the most of their school day. Let’s prioritise rest to support their success!
Children’s Health Queensland outlines what happens if a child doesn’t get enough sleep. “A child who does not get enough healthy sleep may experience difficulties with concentration, memory, regulating their emotions, organising tasks and creative thinking. These children may be easily distracted, irritable, disruptive or generally hyperactive and restless. A lack of healthy sleep has been linked to mental health problems, poor growth, excessive weight gain, and reduced school performance.”
Find out more on sleep here.
Have a happy and safe holiday break. Take time to have fun and relax together. We will see you all after the break 😊

News from the Head of Inclusive Education

At this time of year, Inclusive Education Team members shift our focus to transition planning. Transition planning supports students to successfully start school through our Early Childhood Development Program (ECDP), as they move from year level to year level and to secondary education in conjunction with local high schools.
At Trinity Beach State School, we offer focussed and intensive transition support for students with disability and students with additional needs to address barriers they may experience as they move through the various stages of learning.
Last week, students with disabilities in Year 6 met with Smithfield State High School staff to begin the process of transitioning to high school for Year 7. Staff from the high school visit during Term 3 and in Term 4 students with disabilities participate in transition visits to Smithfield State High School in readiness for the State School Year 6 into Year 7 transition day in Week 10 of Term 4.
Transition planning strategies for students with disability consider the needs of students and their families. This enables staff at our school to identify and provide reasonable adjustments and supports so students can access and participate in learning throughout their schooling.
Organisations such as Raising Children (www.raisingchildren.net.au) and Positive Partnerships (www.positivepartnerships.com.au) offer some great online resources to support student transitions. The Department of Education’s Autism Hub (https://autismhub.education.qld.gov.au) offers a number of resources to support students with autism to participate in transition.
If you would like to learn more about transition supports for students at Trinity Beach State School, please see me in the Inclusive Education Centre.
Kind regards,
SAMANTHA ILIC
HEAD OF INCLUSIVE EDUCATION
News from the Head of Department Curriculum Prep - Year 6

As we come to the end of Term 3, our amazing teachers are working hard to get all assessments marked and give feedback to the students about how they can continue to improve. Over the coming days teachers will be giving feedback directly to the students and developing new learning goals for Term 4 and then sharing these with parents through our parent teacher interview process.
Over last few weeks I have had the pleasure of working with many of our teachers in our moderation process which ensures consistency in marking across all classes. It has been great to see the improvement of many of our students.
Throughout this Term, our teachers have also begun their familiarisation and planning of the new Australian Curriculum for Mathematics due to be implanted in 2025. The aims of the new Mathematics Curriculum are for students to:
- become confident, proficient and effective users and communicators of mathematics, who can investigate, represent and interpret situations in their personal and work lives, think critically, and make choices as active, engaged, numerate citizens
- develop proficiency with mathematical concepts, skills, procedures and processes, and use them to demonstrate mastery in mathematics as they pose and solve problems, and reason with number, algebra, measurement, space, statistics and probability
- make connections between areas of mathematics and apply mathematics to model situations in various fields and disciplines
- foster a positive disposition towards mathematics, recognising it as an accessible and useful discipline to study
- acquire specialist mathematical knowledge and skills that underpin numeracy development and lead to further study in mathematics and other disciplines.
Finally, I wish everyone a safe September school holidays. I am looking forward to see what our Students and teachers can achieve in the final term of 2024!
News from the Guidance Officer

A note from the Guidance Officer…
As we approach the school holiday period, it is important to know what supports exist for you, your child and family members.
The attached poster provides a range of links around Mental Health Supports for your family. A chat with your GP is also an excellent way to source support, and enable referrals.
Act for Kids have support available for you and your family. You can self-refer by calling 13 32 64 (intake number) and discussing what support or assistance you’re looking for. Their main office is located in Cairns City, however they can do outreach appointments (to your area) if needed, or meetings by phone.
DATE CLAIMER
After the holidays, Week 2 is Mental Health Week. There will be activities organised through this week to support staff, students and families.
On Wednesday 9th of October (Wednesday of Week 2), we will be holding our second annual Belonging Breakfast between 7.30 – 9am, under the Junior Learning Centre (JLC). Families are invited to attend for a BBQ breakfast, tea or coffee, stalls by mental health service providers, and fun activities for the whole family.
More details to come. Pop the date in your diaries – we’d love to see you there 😊

Q Parents
To continue to streamline the school’s sale for all items – school fees, excursions, performances, instrumental music we are moving to a cashless school. This allows our school to reduce the time, effort and expenses required to collect and follow up payments from parents and students. When you receive an invoice payments can be made online via BPOINT or QParents.
We are proud of being a relatively-cashless school and thank you for moving online with us!
QParents
QP is an online portal helping the school move toward a cashless and paper friendly school.
- The QP portal allows Parents and Carers to grant participation consent online for activities such as swimming and excursions which reduces our need to print out paper consent forms
- Also, the QP portal enables Parents and Carers to make payment online for school activities and viewing unpaid invoices payment history.
Thank you to all those parents who have registered for QParents. This means every registered parent now has the opportunity to access to their children’s student records at their fingertips, anytime, anywhere. Haven’t received an invitation from us yet? There’s still time! Please let us know immediately. Or if you are simply looking for further information, videos and FAQs on QParents, visit https://qparents.qld.edu.au
Student Medication

Student medication
If your child requires medication at school:
You will be asked to complete and sign the Consent to Administer Medication form.

Student Absences

How to report a student absence:
If your student is absent or needs to leave school early - please contact the office by:

- or call the absence line 4057 1444 - press #1
- or email: attendance@trinitybeachss.eq.edu.au
- QParents
(SMS line does not take calls and no emoji's please)

What an achievement

Boys under 12 Fowlers Cup Netball competition on Friday. They played really well and had a great day. They played 6 games, won 2, drew 1 and lost 3. Darcy Boyle from 5C was selected as best player for one of the games.

On Friday, Trinity Beach State School had three netball teams competing at the Fowlers' Carnival: the U10 Girls, U12 Girls, and an U12 all-boys team, which was participating for the first time. Each team showcased their skills and demonstrated significant improvement throughout the tournament. The U12 girls faced just one loss during the day, but despite that, they were unable to reach the finals. The sportsmanship displayed by all the players was truly commendable.
Thanks to our wonderful Smithfield High umpires, Lauren, Alexia and Charlotte.

On Thursday 29 Aug our Year 3 / 4 Rugby League team played in the Ty Williams Cup against other schools in our district. The weather was good and the footy was even better! We played six games and won five of these (not that we were keeping score in this non-competitive carnival)! Our team played with positive spirit, strength, co-operation and courage. Bridie and Max (both Year 4E) were chosen as players who showed great effort and participation - although each member of the team could have qualified for this encouragement award too! Thank you, Mr O'Grady, for coaching us.
Bridie reported: We had a great day of footy playing 6 games against teams from Cairns, Mareeba and Innisfail. All day everyone showed great sportsmanship, and we all had lots of fun.My favourite part was scoring a try and celebrating with my team. Somehow, I still managed to get English homework.
Max T reported: The Trinity Beach team was really well put together and we played really well. We learnt some new experiences and had lots of fun. Thanks again to Ms Arthur and Mr O'Grady for leading the team.
Team players:(Year 4) Mason, Eli, Archer, Brock, Arthur, Bailey, Nate, Hayden, William, Bridie, Max. (Year 3) Logan, Noah, Nate, Aske, Koadis.

On Wednesday a select year 4, 5 and 6 students played in a modified cricket competition at Crathern Park. They trained hard leading up to the competition. Both of our teams played 4 games over the day. They had lots of fun, showing good team spirit and good sportsmanship throughout the day.
