Principal Message
News from the Prep - Year 2 Deputy Principal

Can you believe, that in just 6 weeks, or 30 school days, the 2024 school year will be over! It feels like yesterday that we were welcoming our Preps through the balloon arches to start their schooling journey and now we are getting ready to welcome our next cohort of Preps into our school.
Stay and Plays are underway with two more sessions to go. I thank the many families that are making the time to attend this session. These sessions make a huge difference for the pre-preps with their confidence to start school in 2025. It is great to see new friendships starting already!
Curriculum achievements
This week, the teachers have been sharing their students monitoring tasks with their cohort team. This is a sample of work that students have written to show their understanding of what has been taught this term. Through this process, the teachers review what students have done well and what might need to be revisited in the coming weeks. We do this process mid term ever term and then we moderate at the end of the term to ensure that we have consistent marking across the board in each cohort. It is so exciting to see the progress of our students from the start of the school year to the end! It really is an exciting time.
Transition
Towards the end of this term we will be running a transition session during school time for our Prep students to go up to the JLC and check out their new ‘home’ space for 2025 to allow them to become familiar with the classrooms and the rules and expectations in this building. It is also a good time for parents to start thinking about where is a good ‘meeting spot’ for pick up after school – often the bottom of the JLC stairs is a preferred spot.
Prep students will start playground transitions, with each class having a designated second break to swap with a year 1 class and play in the 1/2 playground.
I will be working with Ms McMillian, 3-6 Deputy to support a similar transition for the year 2 students as they transition out of the JLC to the year 3 area.
Behaviours
As we approach the end of the year and the temperature heats up, behaviour at school often tends to escalate. I am standing firm on our school rules and supporting teachers in ensuring our students are safe, respectful learners. Inappropriate language and physical behaviours are not acceptable through our school gates, neither is rude and disrespectful behaviour. Students will be given reminders through parades, PBL lessons as well as the many visual reminders around the school to support their behaviours but if they do not follow our rules there will be consequences given. The P-2 team, and I aim to be as consistent as possible so that all students know the expected behaviour required as a student at our brilliant school. I thank you in advance for support this message at home as well.

News from the Year 3 - 6 Deputy Principal

Mid-Term 4 news from the 3-6 space.
Wow! I can’t believe we are almost half way through the final term of school for the year. This is a very busy an exciting term as we have students preparing for the big adventure of entering a new year level, and for our year 6s – High School!
Upcoming Key Events for Years 3-6:
Excellence Awards Night:

Student Leadership for 2025:

This year we have had a large volume of applications from our diligent, caring, and innovative students who are enthusiastic about becoming change makers, leading our school, giving a voice to the student body, and being a role model for our students and school community. I congratulate everyone who took the time to complete their application and consider how they can enhance our school next year and beyond.
This week, selected students for School Captain and Indigenous Leader positions will complete an interview for a panel where they will discuss what makes them a good future leader and how they will enact and promote Trinity Beach State School values and beliefs. Students who are successful in the interview stage, will then prepare a speech for their peers. I wish our future leaders the best through this process, as it takes a lot of bravery, self-awareness and confidence, along with passion for our school to complete this process.
After the interview stage is complete for School Captains, we will then kick off the process for our Sports Captains candidates who will also works towards delivering a speech with a target audience of their House – Michaelmas, Sudbury, Upolo or Agincourt.

Graduation is on its way for our year 6 students! We can’t wait to celebrate with everyone so please save the date and watch out for emails from the year 6 staff requesting photos and information that will make the event memorable for all involved.
What has been happening in the 3-6 space?
Year 4 Excursion:
From the 15th to the 17th of October our year 4 classes visited the Rediscovery Centre – Materials Recovery Facility at the Portsmith Transfer Station. This excursion supported students to understand how recycling works, what can and can’t be recycled, how materials are sorted at the waste station, and most especially, the importance of maintaining good recycling habits to support our environment.
Here are some recounts from our year 4 students –
Two weeks ago, on the 15th of October the grade 4’s went to the resource recovery centre. We went there on the bus and started off by looking at the useful things that kids have made out of bottle caps, plastic bags and aluminium cans. There was bags, toys and sculptures all made out of recycled things. Next, he headed over to where they sorted the different materials into parts on the machine. I learned that they use AI to sort the rubbish and it uses sensors to see what the material is and other ways it sorts it. Afterwards we hopped back onto the bus and went to the buyback shop and had a look there. We jumped on the bus and headed back to school.

Year 4 waste Excursion we went on the 15th of October on Tuesday, then went on the bus, to the transfer station, then listened to a song reduces reuse recycle, learnt not to put batteries in the bin because it can start a fire, then looked at the workers separate the bad things from the good things, we won some prizes did some challenges, and then went to the buy-back shop then we got on the bus and went back to school.
Jai 4B
When we had arrived to the RRF the first thing we had saw was the cubes of rubbish, the estimated value of the rubbish was 3000 dollars per cube and surprisingly it wasn’t smelling as bad I had thought it would. The materials were sorted by their materials the materials were card board, aluminium cans, paper and hard plastics and when they are sorted the council sells them to companies to buy.
When we went up the stairs we went inside a room with all sorts of different stuff made out of recycled materials and all the materials were also recyclable, we had a short 3-5 minutes to observe the stuff in the room shortly after observing we were seated in recyclable chairs, then we had a short presentation about why you should recycle, how you should recycle and what not to recycle. Like for example batteries and e waste.
Rylan
On the 15th of October 2024 the grade 4s went on an excursion to the Cairns Port Smith transfer station. When we got there, we got a tour of the facility and learnt how things work. We went to a classroom and learnt to sort rubbish and saw what and what doesn’t go in the recycling.
We also learnt that soft plastics like shopping bags DO NOT go in the recycling. Also, lids DO NOT go in the recycling either. It was very interesting and cool to see how the machines separate the rubbish using AI.
After that we went to the buy-back shop and got to take a look around. Sadly, we couldn’t buy anything because there was some really cool stuff.
Finally, we got prizes for being good and the prizes were some magnets that tell you what to recycle so you don’t make a mistake while recycling!

Years 4 – 6 Athlete Development Program
In conjunction with our partner school Smithfield State High School, Trinity Beach has started the trial of an Athlete Development Program in Term 4 for selected athletes from years 4, 5 and 6. Athlete Development gives an athlete the opportunity to develop strength, power and agility, and recognise the importance of post training nutrition. An athlete that begins athletic development at an early age will be more likely to reach their full athletic potential later in life. Our students have been working hard in training so for this term and have begun to learn the importance of strength and conditioning training which supports the enhancements of all sporting ventures, along with how vital nutrition and sustenance is. The program also focusses on developing an athlete’s movement patterns and technique.

Strong starts at TBSS
Getting enough sleep is important for children’s focus, mood, and learning at school. A screen-free bedtime routine helps them relax and fall asleep faster. Limiting screens before bed improves sleep quality, making sure kids wake up rested and ready for the day. Children’s Health Qld have some great tips for parents.
Eating a healthy breakfast is important for our kids because it gives them energy to focus and learn at school. Studies show that kids who eat breakfast do better with memory, problem-solving, and overall schoolwork. A healthy breakfast helps them stay alert and ready to succeed.
Many students are arriving prior to 8:15am and are eating their lunches in the COLA. Most student are saying they did not eat breakfast before coming to school.
During week 2 this term, our focus skill was ‘eat first’. Throughout the day, students need to refuel with a healthy lunch and maintain focus and concentration for learning. Not only that, being ‘hangry’ does not help most students to manage their emotions during challenging times.

A big thanks to all parents who stay involved, communicate with their child’s class teacher, and support learning at home. This teamwork creates a strong support system that improves students’ confidence, motivation, and performance in school.

News from the Head of Inclusive Education

As we approach the end of Term 4, we want to emphasise the importance of smooth transitions for all our students, especially those students accessing our Inclusive Education Centre. Transition to and from school can be exciting yet challenging, and we are committed to ensuring that every child feels supported and prepared for 2025. We do this by making reasonable adjustments and providing personalised learning for our students.
Reasonable Adjustments and Personalised Learning
Under the Disability Standards for Education (DSE 2005) all schools have a legal obligation to make reasonable adjustments to enable students with disability to access and participate in education, the curriculum and school activities on the same basis as other students.
The requirements cover all aspects of education including reasonable adjustments to enable students with disability to:
- enrol at their local state school
- participate in the educational program and access the curriculum
- participate in school activities such as camps, speech nights and other school events
- undertake assessment
- use facilities at the school and other places where learning occurs.
An adjustment is a measure or action (or a group of measures or actions) that is personal to a student and may change over time. The adjustment is implemented to ensure that a student with disability is provided with education on the same basis as a student without disability.
Adjustments are made in response to an identified barrier the student is experiencing to accessing and participating in education. It can be made across the whole school, in the classroom or for individual student need.
An adjustment is considered reasonable if it:
- supports a student with a disability to participate in education on the same basis as other students
- takes into account the student's learning needs and
- balances the interests, including the safety of all parties, such as the student with disability, staff members and other students
Before making a reasonable adjustment, under the Disability Standards for Education 2005 (DSE), schools must:
- consult the student (if possible, with regard to age and individual circumstances), and their parents or carers
- consider whether an adjustment is necessary to enable the student to participate on the same basis as other students
- if necessary, identify a suitable reasonable adjustment or adjustments and
- make the reasonable adjustment.
Thank you for your ongoing support!
Kind regards,
Samantha Ilic

News from the Guidance Officer

Across Queensland schools, staff and families are noticing an increase in some issues around students’ use of technology at home. The main trends identified for those students are:
- Some students’ screen time is having an impact on their wellbeing – by causing sleep issues / disruption to routines at home. This can then have an impact in attendance, overall mood, and readiness to learn when they arrive at school.
- Some students are engaging in social media or messaging sites which are not age-appropriate. This can cause social / friendship issues, and can also lead to them being exposed to adult themes / communication from teens or adults.
To assist families to navigate this area, I have attached some resources which may be helpful.
https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents/issues-and-advice/parental-controls A site with specific information for parents / carers
https://www.esafety.gov.au/young-people A site with information and advice for young people – this can be helpful to guide discussions with your child.
If you have some big worries about your child’s time on technology, see below document for some tips / ideas about how this can be addressed.

Q Parents
To continue to streamline the school’s sale for all items – school fees, excursions, performances, instrumental music we are moving to a cashless school. This allows our school to reduce the time, effort and expenses required to collect and follow up payments from parents and students. When you receive an invoice payments can be made online via BPOINT or QParents.
We are proud of being a relatively-cashless school and thank you for moving online with us!
QParents
QP is an online portal helping the school move toward a cashless and paper friendly school.
- The QP portal allows Parents and Carers to grant participation consent online for activities such as swimming and excursions which reduces our need to print out paper consent forms
- Also, the QP portal enables Parents and Carers to make payment online for school activities and viewing unpaid invoices payment history.
Thank you to all those parents who have registered for QParents. This means every registered parent now has the opportunity to access to their children’s student records at their fingertips, anytime, anywhere. Haven’t received an invitation from us yet? There’s still time! Please let us know immediately. Or if you are simply looking for further information, videos and FAQs on QParents, visit https://qparents.qld.edu.au
Student Medication

Student medication
If your child requires medication at school:
You will be asked to complete and sign the Consent to Administer Medication form.
- Medication needs to be in original packaging
- Written medical authorisation, completed pharmacy label, medical order, or action plan completed and signed by prescribing health practitioner.
Student Absences

How to report a student absence:
If your student is absent or needs to leave school early - please contact the office by:

- or call the absence line 4057 1444 - press #1
- or email: attendance@trinitybeachss.eq.edu.au
- QParents
(SMS line does not take calls and no emoji's please)
When students arrive late, they must sign in at the student services window and take their late pass to their classroom. If they are leaving early parents/carers must sign their child/children out from the student services window.

Prep Enrolments Open for 2025

Matilda Jr Rehearsals are now open
Did you hear? The Trinity Beach State School musical for 2025 is… Roald Dahl’s Matilda Jr! Auditions are open for students from Year 3 – 5. If your child is interested, they can collect a form from Mr Terry or Miss Harper. Please read the FAQs, and help them to fill out the form. All returned forms are to come back to Mr Terry or Miss Harper. Auditions will take place in Week 11 of Term 4, or early 2025. Once forms have been collated, Miss Harper will be in contact to inform you/your child of their audition time. Unfortunately auditions are not open for Prep – Year 2 at this time. We can’t wait to see you!
Auditions are a bit “Quiet!”
Mr Terry and Miss Harper have handed out over 100 audition forms, but have only received half of these back. If your child is in Years 3-5 and is keen to audition, make sure they have collected and returned a form. Forms are to be returned to Miss Harper in the JLC as soon as possible so that an audition timetable can be created.

Aussie Bird Count
Year 6 had an amazing time participating in the Aussie Bird Count! It was both educational and enjoyable as the students had the chance to connect with nature, observe local bird species, and contribute to a nationwide citizen science project. Armed with binoculars and bird guides, the students worked together to spot, identify, and count the beautiful birds in our school grounds.
We encourage families to join in at home! Participating in the Aussie Bird Count is a fantastic way to bond while learning about the birds in your own backyard. It's a fun, easy activity that helps contribute valuable data to bird research across Australia. Download the free app and spend just 20 minutes birdwatching with your family – you'll be surprised at how many different birds you can spot!
