Year 2 Term 2 2025 Curriculum Overview
Welcome & General Information
Welcome back after what we hope was a great break for all. We would also like to welcome any new families into the Trinity Beach community. The purpose of this overview is to share what topics our students will be covering over the duration of this term across all of the learning areas as well as share when students will be assessed on their learning. For information about specific events please keep a look out on the Trinity Beach State School Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/trinitybeachss/ To ensure a smooth start to the term, please check to see if your child needs any additional equipment, such as stationary or uniforms and ensure that these are named to reduce the risk of losing them. We hope that this term is a successful term. As always, if you have any questions about your child’s progress or if you have any concerns your first point of contact is your child’s teacher. The contact details for all the teachers are listed in the “Contact Information” section. |
English
Recount
Students listen to, read and view narratives, traditional stores and fairy tales. They will explore the text structure and language features to create a written recount of events and characters.
Maths
This term, students will:
- order and represent numbers to at least 1000, apply knowledge of place value to partition, rearrange and rename two- and three-digit numbers in terms of their parts, and regroup partitioned numbers to assist in calculations
- use mathematical modelling to solve practical additive and multiplicative problems, including money transactions, representing the situation and choosing calculation strategies
- determine the number of days between events using a calendar and read time on an analog clock to the hour, half hour and quarter hour
Science
Students investigate the combination of materials used to make an object for a particular purpose. Students record and represent observations and communicate ideas.
Humanities & Social Sciences (HASS)
In this unit students will explore the following inquiry question:
- How are people connected to their place and other places?
Students explore the location and significant features of places and consider how people are connected to these and why they should be preserved.
Health & Physical education (HPE)
In PE, students in year two will continue to demonstrate fundamental skills to test alternatives to solve movement challenges and reach their targets in different games and sports. They will also explore running, jumping and throwing activities and take part in simple challenges and competitions in athletics.
Music
In this unit, students will appreciate and analyse the music of Saint-Saens. They will consolidate their knowledge of rhythmical elements – Ta, Ti-ti and Za and learn tika-tika(semiquavers). Students will create and perform different rhythmical patterns using known rhythmical elements. They will learn about tuned and un-tuned percussion instruments and use these to produce rhythmical ostinatos. Students will be introduced to the musical forms of the canon, A form and AB form by singing different songs. They will consolidate their knowledge of the pentatonic scale. |
Technology
Students follow and describe basic algorithms involving a sequence of steps and branching. They explore familiar programmable robots and implement basic algorithms to solve problems. With assistance, students access and use digital systems for a purpose and use the basic features of common digital tools to create, locate and share content, and to collaborate, following agreed behaviours.
Visual Arts
This term year 2 students will continue to learn about the 7 elements of art and creating art pieces that incorporate these elements. We will also continue to use the book ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ as our creative focus. Students will use and experiment with different materials, techniques, technologies and processes to make various artworks which they will critic and display.
Drama
In Term 2 students explore the legend of The Pied Piper of Hamelin and consider how the parents of the missing children would have felt (empathy). They make choices about the roles of the Pied Piper, the Mayor and the parents of the missing children as they participate in a process drama. The students explore ideas and solutions by participating in the developing drama and, while in role, share these with others.
