Principal's Message
Year 5-6 News from the Deputy

Welcome back for Semester 2. We have started this term with our Year 5 students going on a boating excursion at Holloways Beach Environmental Education Centre. Students were exploring marine creatures in their habitats and looking at the adaptations necessary for survival. This is related to their Term 3 Science unit. Students enjoyed their day outside of the classroom and thank you to the parents who also attended.
Year 6 students will be going off to camp next week- the highlight of their school year. Students will be ‘glamping’ at Camp Peterson where they will be engaged in a range of activities developing team building, independence and resilience. By now, your child should have a list of the necessary equipment they will need to bring. A reminder also that school will run as usual for those students not attending.
Congratulations also to those students who were selected to participate in the Young Scholars rotations this term for the first time. If you child did not receive an offer and would like to be part of the program, please arrange a time to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss the next steps towards achieving a place. Young Scholars is part of the Tropical North Learning Academy partnership between TBSS and Smithfield SHS and the criteria for participation has been developed as part of this partnership. If you would like more information about this, I can be contacted via email.
Kind regards
Leanne Bell
Deputy Years 5 & 6
Year 3-4 News from the Deputy

Hello,
Welcome back and happy term 3. Our team are so pleased to see so many happy faces returning and so many new students joining us. Term 3 is a busy one with students receiving their first semester reports and working towards their goals to consolidate past knowledge and improve on results.
This Term
In year 3 we are working on poetry for English with an exciting beach walk excursion scheduled for week 7. More information about the lovely morning out will be coming from teachers in the coming weeks. The year 4’s are excited about their advertising unit this term and look to produce compelling arguments to sell their product.
Infrastructure
We are very excited about the beginning of construction to create a new amenities block, under cover basketball area and tuckshop that has started this term. Unfortunately to get great new facilities we do have to be a little flexible. We are working through bumps that may temporarily disrupt learning as they arrive. This may result in some classes changing locations temporarily to other indoor or outdoor learning spaces. We will ensure that learning continues comfortably so that we can provide the best infrastructure for our outstanding students.

Trinity Beach State School is a brilliant School.
Kind regards,
Emma Taylor
Prep - Year 2 News from the Deputy

Welcome to term 3!
We are now well and truly into the school year. Expectations of students at school both in the playground and the classroom are well known and there should be no reason that we don’t have a wonderful and successful term 3 and 4.
Attendance
Attendance is so important. Every week on parade we put up the attendance rate for each class each week. It is so upsetting to see that many of our classes are highlighted RED which means that their attendance is below 90%.
We need our students here every single day that they are well. It is very difficult for teachers to catch students up when they are away. Many parents ask for work for their student while they are away on holidays etc and this is not always possible. Teachers are teaching new concepts in all learning areas every single day. If your child has not been taught these concepts in the required way, they will not be able to access the work that the students are consolidating their knowledge on. Please save your holidays where possible to during the school holidays and make every day count at school.
Junior Sports Day
What a fantastic last day of 2 term we had. It was so fantastic to see all the Prep – year 3 students participate in their race and also in the rotational activities. Thank you to Ms Powell, Ms Donovan and Ms Arthur for all your hard work to make this such a successful day. Thank you to all the parents that came out to support as well.
100 days of Prep
On Thursday the 28th of July, the Prep students will be celebrating 100 days of Prep and being 100 days smarter! The Prep teachers (including Montessori) will be joining together to celebrate this milestone with an activity morning. Children are invited to come dressed as their 100 year old self and parents are also invited to join in the fun from 9.15am-11 in the Prep area.
Prep information session
Our 2023 Prep Parent Information session for both Prep and Montessori Prep will be held on Thursday the 4th of August from 4-5.30pm. During this time there will be a presentations from both Prep offerings as well as a performance from the String instrumental music ensemble and a sausage sizzle. Please share this information with any families external to our school so that they can come along and see the amazing work being done in our prep classrooms and see that Trinity Beach State School is a brilliant school and the best choice for a world class education.
Excursions and incursions
There are a lot of exciting excursions and incursions happening this term. From Prep beach excursions to history and animal incursions in year 2. Thank you to our dedicated teachers for organising these exciting events. Please keep a look out for photos of these exciting events on our Facebook page.
Head of Inclusive Education News

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) happens every year in August.
As a parent, guardian or carer, what do I need to know?
Under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, schools have an obligation to ensure that students with disability are able to access and participate in school on the same basis as their peers.
To ensure this, students with disability may receive adjustments or support, depending on their functional needs, to access and participate in education.
Parents, guardians and carers have an important role in their child’s education. They work collaboratively with the school to ensure that the school understands their child’s needs and that appropriate adjustments are made to enable access to education.
The NCCD is an annual count of students who are being provided with adjustments to address disability. All Australian schools and approved authorities for schools participate in the NCCD each year.
Fact sheets for parents, guardians and carers about the NCCD
If you would like to learn more about the NCCD, further information can be found on the NCCD portal https://www.nccd.edu.au or visit the Inclusive Education Centre/Administration Office.

Head of Department Curriculum Year P-6 News

It’s wonderful to see students back after their break ready to engage in learning! Term curriculum overviews from each year level will be sent out next week to all families, these provide a snap shot of what students are learning in class. An assessment schedule is also included in the overview so parents and carers are aware of when students will have assessment tasks occurring throughout the term.
This term is jam packed with a range of events for students to participate in! We have started the term off with NAIDOC week celebrations, students have been able to participate in lots of different activities from visual art rotations, story time around the camp fire, writing their own acknowledgement of country and NAIDOC parade where we enjoyed seeing students from our school present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dances.
Later this term we will hold Book Week 2022 and Scholastics Book Fair, this will be throughout week 7. More information will come out closer to the date!

Guidance Officer News

Sometimes I am asked “What does a Guidance Officer do in a school?”
It’s a good question, because it involves a lot of different tasks!! Sometimes I do some one on one or small group work with students, sometimes I work with families to link then with supports outside of the school. I complete some work with specific students to complete Cognitive Assessments, and I work with families and staff to help students cope with any social / emotional issues which may be impacting on their time at school.
I also organise (or support) the planning of special days within the school, which focus on building awareness and support of groups of people. One of these is coming up soon, called “Wear It Purple Day”- this will occur on Friday the 26th of August, 2022. This day is to show support for students, families and community members who LGBTQIA+. We aim to use this day as an opportunity to foster a supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environment in our school.
As diversity is so important in our school, we invite families to also support this day. We will invite staff and students to add a splash of purple to their clothing on this day, and show their support.
For more information on this event, you can visit the website on https://www.wearitpurple.org/

PBL – Positive Behaviour for Learning is our Whole School Approach for behaviour.
The fundamental philosophy of PBL is that we cannot assume that our students know how to behave at school if they haven’t been explicitly taught the expectations required.
Each fortnight our PBL team meets to analyse the behaviour data to determine what needs to be taught or revised in regard to our school expectations. These expectations are then taught as focus skills in the classroom and on parade. The language is used by all staff and the posters are displayed around the school and on our school’s Facebook page so that they can be reiterated at home. This week our focus skill is ‘Respect people’s personal space’.
Pop into parade on Monday from 2:15pm to see our new TBSS Breaking News segment thanks to the Mr Terry’s Drama Extension team. Each week the news team helps our students understand our Behaviour Focus.
