IEC Term 3 Overview 2022
Term overview
Welcome
Welcome back! We trust everyone had a fabulous holiday and that your child is ready for an exciting second half of the year in the IEC class. Individual student timetables have been sent home via email/communication books. If you would like to discuss your child’s timetable please email/phone to request a meeting time. If your child will be absent please ensure you let the office know by texting (SMS) 0428 621 921.
Arrivals
IEC students spend the first 30 mins of the day in their roll class. This allows for them to greet their classroom teacher and peers, and be included in morning well-being routines. Class rolls need to be marked by 9:05am each morning, if you are arriving after 9:05am please ensure that you get a late slip for your child from the office as teachers are unable to change their roll once it’s marked. Students transition much smother to and from classes when they are on time. If you could please arrive at your child’s roll class at 8:55am in order for classes to begin right on 9am! IEC staff will arrive to support IEC children at these classes at 9am.

Reading / Spelling
This year our school implemented a systematic synthetic phonics approach that has a teaching sequence for reading and spelling which goes across the entire school. Promoting Literacy Development or PLD for short, provides teachers with an innovative, evidence-based approach to literacy and advocates that children’s literacy and learning outcomes are maximized when the areas of literacy, oral language and movement & motor skills are simultaneously targeted. With this change, we have been working with decodable texts instead of predictable texts in the teaching of reading.
Our IEC students (see picure below) have been working hard to decode their spelling and high frequency words!

Pre-writing skills are the fundamental fine motor skills that children need to develop before they begin to write They will continue to develop text production skills through the use of technology such as IPADS, computers and SMART boards.
