Principal's Message

Get Set For Prep: From Prep to PhD
Instrumental Music students opened our Get Set for Prep community event last week. This was a highly attended event that has seen our Prep enrolments skyrocket. Speakers included our extraordinary Prep Teachers, Principal, Deputy Principal and School Council Chair Mr Ian Stone. At Trinity Beach State School, we place students at the centre of our work. Over the last 18 months we have renovated all Prep classrooms, purchased the latest phonics and decodable learning resources while enhancing opportunities for our learners to participate in hands on learning. At Trinity Beach State School under the Tropical North learning Academy, we are in a position to provide a seamless transition from Prep to PhD as we connect strongly with Smithfield State High School and JCU. Enrolments are open and we may consider out of catchment in some instance. Please express your interest now.

Stop Drop Go… Keeping Children Safe
Please assist our school and families by following the directions of our signs located on the STOP< DROP & GO fences. Parking and stopping the flow for extended times can pose as a risk for our students. Please continue driving around our school block to ensure you are not causing prolonged stoppages and safety risk. Please contact the Queensland Police Service if you are concerned about road safety issues. Thank-you for your support.

Focussing on the little things to avoid the BIG ones… A culture of high expectations
Our calm and focussed culture is a direct result of our collective high expectations across our school that are underpinned by our global expectations of Safety, Respect and Learning. Please continue to discuss with your children how they can play an active part in supporting our school rules every day.

Every Day Counts!
Attending school every day and on time is vital for a quality education. Please ensure your child attends as regularly as possible unless they are sick. Students who attend regularly develop better social skills, have stronger friendships groups and academically achieve better. If you have any barriers impacting on your child’s attendance, please contact our school to discuss.
Before and After School Playground Use:
Playground use after hours is always problematic for schools as we do not have active supervision. Unsupervised use of school facilities is not endorsed. This said, families who actively supervise their children may use the playground if done in accordance to our rules. This is simply, quietly, safely and respectfully in particularly in areas close to classroom where teachers are working. Thank-you for your understanding.
Year 5-6 News from the Deputy

Our Year 6 students have returned from a very successful camp. Students engaged in a range of activities including canoeing, orienteering and navigating a water obstacle course. The Tableland’s overnight cold was severely underestimated though which resulted in a call out for blanket donations. Thank you to those parents who volunteered their time to assist with the groups. The next excursion for our Year 6 students will be the reef trip which ties in with the student’s Science report on mitigating threats to the Great Barrier Reef. Permission forms have already gone home – if you are yet to see one, check your child’s bag or request another from the class teacher.
Our Year 5 students are preparing for their own camp in Week 10 at Lake Tinaroo. This is an opportunity for students to develop team and leadership skills in preparation for being our Seniors in 2023. Permission forms have been emailed to all families, if you are yet to receive one please check your Junk mail or contact the class teacher.
Also a reminder that any student in Year 6 planning on attending Smithfield SHS in 2023 will need to attend an enrolment session at the school. The next session will be held on October 19 at 5pm. Enrolment packs will be given out at these sessions.
Kind regards
Leanne Bell

Head of Inclusive Education News

I’m often asked by families to recommend inclusive resources for students with additional needs, so have included some here for you to access. As parents and carers you play an important role in helping your child feel positive about school. Students with additional needs may feel a combination of emotions about school. Some days children may feel happy and confident. At other times, they may appear sad, anxious, tired or overwhelmed. These are all typical responses as children grow and adjust to the school environment, while learning routines and expectations.

Guidance Officer News

A note from the Guidance Officer….
One of the skills that our children often struggle to build is resilience.
What is resilience? It is defined as ‘a child’s ability to cope with ups and downs, and bounce back from the challenges they experience during childhood’. Building resilience has long term health and mental wellbeing effects.
Resilience starts at home, but it can be difficult to work out where to get started. In order to assist your child to be more resilient, you can focus on:
- Building supportive relationships (with family and others, friendships, and having empathy).
- Building your child’s independence, problem solving skills, decision-making and responsibility.
- Helping your child to understand, regulate and manage their emotions.
- Allowing your child to experience challenges that they may find difficult – to build the confidence that they CAN succeed.
- The use of positive and encouraging ‘self-talk’ in their minds.

PBL - Positive Behaviour for Learning is our Whole School Approach for behaviour.
Trinity Dollars are issued to students for consistent positive behaviour.

PBL – Positive Behaviour for Learning is our Whole School Approach for behaviour.
The fundamental philosophy of PBL is that we cannot assume that our students know how to behave at school if they haven’t been explicitly taught the expectations required.
Each fortnight our PBL team meets to analyse the behaviour data to determine what needs to be taught or revised in regard to our school expectations. These expectations are then taught as focus skills in the classroom and on parade. The language is used by all staff and the posters are displayed around the school and on our school’s Facebook page so that they can be reiterated at home. This week our focus skill is ‘Helping Myself and Others to Learn’.
Pop into parade on Monday from 2:15pm to see our new TBSS Breaking News segment thanks to the Mr Terry’s Drama Extension team. Each week the news team helps our students understand our Behaviour Focus.

Bike Bus News
FAQ
What is a bike bus?
A bike bus, also known as a bike train or a cycle train, is a group of people who cycle together on a set route following a set timetable other than for sporting purposes. Cyclists may join or leave the bike bus at various points along the route. Most bike buses are a form of collective bicycle commuting.
At TBSS, we have a bike bus which operates every Wednesday at 8am. Our Northern bike bus starts at Poolwerx, Clifton Beach. This route follows the path along the highway all the way to our school. Our Southern route starts at Eat Street Cafe, Trinity Park, and goes down Roberts Rd, loops around Reed Rd to connect us to school. We run return trips to take students home in the afternoon.

Outstanding numbers for bike bus. A big thanks to the parents who participated - it’s a big help to have your support. The staff and kids were wheelie grateful

Under 8's Day

Swimming Year 4 and 6
In a state like Queensland, where water activities are part of our lifestyle, the safety of our children and families in and around the water is paramount. Water safety is a life skill, which starts from the moment a child comes into contact with water through all stages to adult life.
For this reason, the Year 4 and 6 students at Trinity Beach State School will be involved in a swimming program during weeks 9 and 10 of this term. Students will be involved in 8 , 45 minute lessons aligned to the Australian Curriculum by qualified swimming instructors from the Northern Beaches Swim School, Learn to Swim. Students will be travelling by bus to The Sun Pacific College in Kewarra Beach where they will be enhancing their skills and knowledge they need to be safe in and around water.
Permission consent and medical forms will be sent out to families.
School Performance The Boy with the Longest Shadow
Permission letters will be sent to families soon.
