Year 5-6 News from the Deputy

Year 5-6 news from the Deputy
I would like to start by welcoming the new families and students who have joined the upper school over the last few weeks.
We are fast approaching the end of a very busy term. Our Year 6 students are completing assessments and taking part in our swimming program. Next week those heading to Smithfield State High School in Year 7 will be selecting their subjects for 2023. Students will bring home a Subject Selection Form to discuss with you. This will need to be returned to the high school. For those students not yet enrolled, the next enrolment session will be held on October 19 at 5pm. Enrolment packs will be given out at this session.
Our Year 5 students are also completing assessments so they can head off to Lake Tinaroo for camp next week. Students head off on Monday and return Wednesday. Next term our aspiring Year 5 leaders will have the opportunity to nominate for 2023 school leadership positions. Students who would like to be considered will bring home a permission form in Week 1 which also outlines the election process.
Next week on Thursday, both our Year 5 and Year 6 students will attend a presentation given by the QPS. Think U Know is an age appropriate internet safety program developed by the Australian Federal Police.
Have a safe holiday and we will see everyone back next term.
Kind regards
Leanne Bell
Deputy Years 5 & 6
Year 3-4 News from the Deputy

Hello,
Our term 3 is wrapping up with all classes busily finishing assessments.
Year 3 Beach Excursion
Our annual beach walk excursion was once again a huge success. With students enjoying a day in the sunshine and engaging their senses to help them write their beach poetry assessment. Thanks to this excursion their poems were rich in poetic devices and language features such as alliteration, onomatopoeia, noun groups and rhyme. I want to thank the staff and the parent volunteers for their efforts that allow these events to happen.

Year 4 Swimming
Our swimming lessons are in full swing with students receiving swimming lessons 4 days a week over weeks 9 and 10. Our teachers are proud, our students happy and we are receiving feedback that our students are representing the school with pride.
Welcomes
We would like to welcome our new families to our school after a surge of enrolments recently. We hope that they are enjoying this beautiful area and making connections and friends fast.
Trinity Beach State School is a brilliant School.
Kind regards,
Emma Taylor
Prep - Year 2 News from the Deputy

Can you believe we are the end of term 3 already!
Thank you to all the families that booked in to have a parent teacher interview. Communication between home and school is the key to success for all our students. If you somehow missed this opportunity please contact your child’s teacher to arrange a mutually agreeable time to discuss your child’s progress.
Under 8s Day
Next Friday (16th of September) Trinity Beach State School will be hosting our annual Under 8s day extravaganza. This is a massive morning celebrating everything that is great about being under 8. All our P-2 students will be participating and we warmly welcome families to bring their 0-5 children along to join in the fun.
A huge acknowledgement to Shannon Hanley, Nicky Passfield and Lauren Shouldice for leading the work to make this day happen.
There will be an enrolment stall on site for those families who have not yet completed and submitted their enrolment forms for Prep 2023.
Enrolments and Stay and Play
The enrolment process for Prep 2023 is well underway and we have Stay and Play events happening in early term 4. In order to book your child in for these sessions, enrolment paperwork needs to be handed into the school office. If you have a child who is eligible for Prep in 2023 please drop into the office for an enrolment pack or download it from the school website. I do not wish for any eligible pre-prep student to miss out on this wonderful transition opportunity.
Donation
We are seeking donations of balls of wool for our Stay and Play sessions. If you happen to have any balls of wool hidden away in cupboards that you are not using we would love to have them.
Head of Inclusive Education News

As Term 3 ends, staff at our school shift their focus to transition planning. Transition planning is important to ensure students move through the various stages of learning and supports student learning and wellbeing.
Focussed and intensive transition support may be needed by students with disability and additional needs to address the barriers they may experience to successfully starting school, moving to secondary education, moving into their senior phase of learning and finally leaving school to start the next stage of their learning in higher education, vocational education or work.
Transition planning and strategies for students with disability and additional needs are planned in advance and use a person-centred approach and consider the needs of the individual student and their family. This allows schools to identify and provide the reasonable adjustments and supports needed to enable the student to access and participate in their education at all stages of learning.
If your child has additional needs and requires support to transition to our school (Prep) or from our school (Year 6 into 7) I would love to hear from you. Please stop by the Inclusive Education Centre (located in the temporary Administration office) and ask about us about transition.
Kind regards,
SAMANTHA ILIC

A big thank you to all volunteers who have given up their time to contact our new library books. Over the past few months we have had countless volunteers contacting our new reading resources, giving up their time to offer this assistance. It is so very much appreciated!
Over the next week students will be coming to the end of their assessment tasks for the term, this is a time for them to celebrate their success and achievement!
Guidance Officer News

A note from the Guidance Officer….
Hello everyone!! With the school holidays fast approaching, I’m aware this can be a time of high stress for students. Sometimes, we do not see the impacts of this at school, but you may be seeing it at home.
If you have concerns about your child’s wellbeing over the school holiday period, here are some things you can do.
1. Make an appointment with your GP for your child (and you) to attend together. If a face to face appointment is not possible, Telehealth (over the phone) appointments can also be a good option. Discuss your worries with your GP, and see what supports / ideas they can offer. All GPs have training in assessing mental health and wellbeing
2. Link with phone or online services to get some ideas on promoting wellbeing for your child. A range of excellent websites and phone services are available – here are a few links to get you started.
Parentline – phone 1300 301 300 or online at www.parentline.com.au
Kids’ Help Line – phone 1800 551 800 or online at https://kidshelpline.com.au
Beyond Blue – phone 1300 224 636 or https://healthyfamilies.beyondblue.org.au
3. Speak with services to get some support for you / your child / children – some options include:
Uniting Care Counselling – Provide 1:1 counselling for children and adults, and can do this at school for children if needed, families can self-refer – Ph 1300 096 203
Centacare counselling – Provide 1:1 counselling for children and adults, and can do this at school for children if needed, families can self-refer – Ph 4044 0130
Act for Kids – Family and Child Connect – Families can engage with this service in order to be linked with appropriate support options for their children – Ph 4033 8500

PBL - Positive Behaviour for Learning is our Whole School Approach for behaviour.
PBL – Positive Behaviour for Learning is our Whole School Approach for behaviour.
The fundamental philosophy of PBL is that we cannot assume that our students know how to behave at school if they haven’t been explicitly taught the expectations required.
Each fortnight our PBL team meets to analyse the behaviour data to determine what needs to be taught or revised in regard to our school expectations. These expectations are then taught as focus skills in the classroom and on parade. The language is used by all staff and the posters are displayed around the school and on our school’s Facebook page so that they can be reiterated at home. This week our focus skill is ‘Helping Myself and Others to Learn’.
Pop into parade on Monday from 2:15pm to see our new TBSS Breaking News segment thanks to the Mr Terry’s Drama Extension team. Each week the news team helps our students understand our Behaviour Focus.
