Year 5 - 6 News from the Deputy

Year 5-6 news from the Deputy
Welcome back for the new term. I would like to extend a warm welcome to the families who have joined us in the upper school for the start of Term 4.
In Term 4 there is much to celebrate. Our students will be showcasing the art works they have been working on with our visiting Art teacher Sharon Wedel. Our Instrumental Music students will also be showcasing their talents. On the 10th November, for the first time, we are going to hold an Awards Night where our students in Grade 3 to 6 will be rewarded for excellence in academic, citizenship and sporting achievement. Invitations will go home soon to the families of students receiving awards. Students will need to nominate for citizenship awards – forms can be collected from the office by students who volunteer their time and efforts to assist the community both inside and outside the school.
Our Year 6 students are also transitioning to high school this term. A reminder that if your child is going to our TNLA partner school, Smithfield SHS, you will need to attend an enrolment session and enrol before students can take part in the transition activities that are happening this term. Please contact the high school for more information. Of course we can not send our students off to high school without a graduation ceremony. This will take place on the 8th December at 9am in our school hall. In preparation for the ceremony, class teachers are asking for a photo of your child taken at the time they first started on their schooling journey. These photos will form part of our visual collage at Graduation. Could you please either email the class teacher or send the photo in with your child (these will be returned).
As you can see, Term 4 is a busy time for both schools and families. As the year closes and we move into assessment and reporting, all students may become tired and fractious. Students in Year 6 may also experience anxiety as they are about to leave the familiar and embark on a new phase in their lives. We can build resilience in our children by helping them recognise that it can be exciting not knowing exactly what will happen – surprises can sometimes be nice! Not all unexpected events are good of course, and building resilience is about helping children cope with disappointment and how to react when things don’t go their way. Encourage your child to talk about feelings and emotions so that they can recognise and label the feelings of disappointment and frustration that are normal reactions to set-backs.
Kind regards
Leanne Bell

Year 3-4 News from the Deputy

Hello,
Welcome back and happy term 4.
Year 4 Cairns Resource and Recovery Facility Excursion
Our annual visit to the Cairns Resource and Recovery Facility was a huge success with students returning feeling excited and ready to share their innovative ideas around sustainability in our world. The feedback from staff and parents was that the students displayed exceptional respectful behaviours that we are all very proud of. The students will use the knowledge gained to assist them in their term 4 Science unit. Thank you to the Staff and Parents that attended for supporting our students.

Welcomes
We would like to welcome our new families to our school after a surge of enrolments recently. We hope that they are enjoying this beautiful area and making connections and friends fast. A special welcome also to Mrs Jen Schulz, who we are lucky to have join our team as the grade 4C teacher.
Trinity Beach State School is a brilliant School.

Prep - Year 2 News from the Deputy

Welcome back to term 4.
It is hard to believe that in just 9 weeks, students will have completed their current year of schooling! Transitions are already underway with our newest school members, the Prep students of 2023. Enrolment interviews are underway and as are our Stay and Play sessions. Please remember, if your child is eligible for prep 2023, to bring your completed paperwork to the school administration office asap so that you can still join our next three Stay and Play’s.
Mural
You may have noticed the amazing new artwork underway in the Junior Learning Centre. Mrs Sharon Wedel is creating a “Sensory de-escalation wall” for our P-2 students. Feel free to pop under and see her progress over the next few weeks!

Head of Inclusive Education News

Transition is our focus in the Inclusive Education Centre this term – transition to school for 2023 Early Years Pathways Prep Students, transition from school for our Year 6’s going to high school and transition within the school such as year level to year level, moving around the school or between lessons.
Students with additional needs often face difficulty with change, so things like moving around the school or finishing an activity can be quite challenging. In the lead up to the end of year, you might like to spend some time familiarising your child about the transitions they will need to consider for 2023. Your child may need to become familiar with different areas of the school, places to play, using stop drop and go, and get to know people who can help them at school. If you start talking about 2023 now, you can continue building on those ideas over time, so that when school starts in 2023 your child is well prepared.
The Department of Education has some great resources for transition for students with autism (that is a great resource for all children) including their online Transition Resource package found here https://autismhub.education.qld.gov.au/resources/online-transition-resource
If you would like support or ideas on how to improve transitions for your child within the day to day school environment at our school please see me in the Inclusive Education Centre.
Kind regards,
Samantha Ilic

PBL - Positive Behaviour for Learning is our Whole School Approach for behaviour
Engaging Positive Incentives:
We have a schoolwide positive incentive system called Trinty Dollars. Students can earn dollars by displaying repsectful behaviours across our school.
This group of little legends spent their 100 Trinity Dollars on cooking with our Deputy Principal Mrs Taylor. They cooked Honey soy stir-fry chicken and Choc Puppy Chow. Mr Hollis our Principal washed the dishes...

The fundamental philosophy of PBL is that we cannot assume that our students know how to behave at school if they haven’t been explicitly taught the expectations required.
Each fortnight our PBL team meets to analyse the behaviour data to determine what needs to be taught or revised in regard to our school expectations. These expectations are then taught as focus skills in the classroom and on parade. The language is used by all staff and the posters are displayed around the school and on our school’s Facebook page so that they can be reiterated at home. This week our focus skill is ‘Respect our School Environment’
Pop into parade on Monday from 2:15pm to see our new TBSS Breaking News segment thanks to the Mr Terry’s Drama Extension team. Each week the news team helps our students understand our Behaviour Focus.

Sports News

On Friday the 7th, Trinity Beach State School had a group of boys and a group of girls who went to Mulgrave, Edmonton to compete in a friendly cricket competition. Both the teams tried their hardest for all of their games but in the end, neither of the teams won a game. But despite that tiny setback, every single person had an absolute ball while supporting their teammates. I really enjoyed that the day was non-competitive and that everyone had a chance to bat, bowl and field.
I really enjoyed playing cricket at the Cricket Blast FNQ Cup on Friday, our team is amazing and put in 100% effort! Even in the heat we bowled and smashed some awesome shots! I would definitely play in the tournament next year. Since one of the other teams pulled out we got to do a skills session as well which was really fun. Everyone was such good sports and was always encouraging each other and cheering.
Luckily for us, the only ducks were the ones in the sky!
Nyah O'Mahoney
Harry P
I thought it was fun and the most challenging thing was trying not to sledge as wicket keeper!
Kaleb W
I had a great day and think our team worked well and played awesome together. I had lots of fun running around, bowling and batting. The funniest part of my day was when I went to hit the wicket but tripped on my own foot and completely missed it! It was such a fun, awesome day and I loved every minute of it. I recommend anyone who likes fun outside to try cricket.
Girls Team: Sharaya, Shania, Nyah, Madison, Willow, Chloe and Zoe
Boys Team: Tommi, Hayden, Kaleb, Harry P, Jimmy, Jacob T, Kade and Byron C.

Congratulations to Austin and Salvatore for their involvement in the Jamie Gosling FNQ School Soccer Championship.
Salvatore won the trophy for Golden Boot, scoring the most goals in the competition for his age group. Austin and Salvatore tied for Most Valuable Player.
