Future Ready 2026 – 4 year strategic plan realising the potential of everyone
Hello Trinity Beach State School parents & carers,
I would like to take this time to thank you for your support over the last 5 weeks of schooling. The students are very engaged, continue to interact positively together and do this with big smiles on their faces. Ensuring our students have a deep sense of belonging, feel safe and respected while continuing to engaged in active learning is our focus. I am confident in all of our staff who support this thriving culture at our school on a daily basis.
Our purpose is to seek feedback from you with relation to our 4 Year Strategic Plan – Future Ready 2026. This is a new approach not commonly taken in schools to create a visual representation of where we would like to be in the next 4 years. It is compromised of the key themes, values and priorities that we have heard over the last 18 months.
Please see the attached DRAFT 4 Year Strategic Plan – Future Ready 2026 document.
The information on this document is at its final stages and comprises of the following feedback and input processes:
- Parent & Carer Online Surveys (2022)
- P&C Meeting input (2021-2023)
- School Council input (2022)
- Student input (Student Leaders)
- Educational Improvement Branch (EIB) Full School Review recommendations (2022 March)
- Teacher & support staff input
- Leadership team input and design
- Department of Education Equity & Excellence policy
- Department of Education Inclusive Education policy and support materials
Please provide feedback to the Principal@trinitybeachss.eq.edu.au, in person or to any one of our leadership team members at our school.

Our Focus for Improvement 2023 – An Explicit Improvement Agenda
We continue full steam ahead in supporting students and teachers around the two important areas of inclusion and the Science of Reading. We are now 12 months into this improvement focus and are seeing progress in student engagement, academic advancement and staff capability. Please continue to read to your children every night.
I love reading with my children and always like to ensure that reading for enjoyment comes first. Here are my top 10 questions when reading with my children to stimulate great conversation and most of all, strengthening quality time together.
Mr Hollis’ Top 10 Questions to ask children when reading at home
- Can you find the authors name on the cover? The illustrator?
- What do you think of the illustrations in the book? Are they painted? Drawn? Collaged? Photographs?
- What do you think might happen next in the story?
- If you were the author of the story would you have ended it the same way?
- What did you like or dislike about this book?
- What do you think the author was trying to say to us? What helped you figure out the message?
- What part of the story was the most exciting or interesting?
- Which character was your favourite? Why?
- Did any of the characters remind you of anyone that you know?
- Can you think of any other books that are similar to this one?

Parent Teacher Interviews Term 1, 21 March from 3.15pm – Connecting with you
In Week 9 of this term, we will be communicating our usual School Online Booking System (SOBs) process to allow families to book 10-minute interviews with their children’s teachers. More information will come later next week to commence the booking of interviews. This will occur in our school hall.
Year 5 - 6 News from the Deputy

Welcome to Week 5- half way through the term; it only seems like yesterday that we were welcoming our students back.
Last week we officially acknowledged our 2023 school leaders at our Induction Ceremony. It is always a very proud moment to see our students receive their badges for being role models and leaders across sporting, academic and musical fields. Other recent events include the Year 5 excursion to Holloways Beach Environment Education Centre. Unfortunately, the rain meant that students could not go out in the boats but were still able to study marine creature adaptations at the centre. I look forward to seeing the wonderful creatures they create in their Science lessons as a result. Our Year 6 students also have camp coming up in Week 10. Permission forms have gone out – if you are yet to see one please contact your child’s teacher. As our school leaders, this camp provides an opportunity for our Year 6 students to develop not only their leadership skills but also independence and resilience, important skills as they begin the journey into high school.
This week I would also like to discuss cyber-safety. The internet is an integral part of our lives and has an increasing impact on our student’s social development and interactions. Social media, smart watches and other technologies can provide children with wonderful opportunities to learn, be creative and socialise. While being on-line can be a positive experience, just as with face to face interactions, sometimes bullying and harassment can occur. It is important that your child is aware that not everyone on social media is a friend. Unfortunately, some use technology to send nasty & inappropriate messages.
To support your child’s on-line experience ensure they know how to block, unfriend and report inappropriate online behaviour. Encourage your child to think before they share or post – is it true, useful and positive? Encourage your child to never respond to a bully as this may make the situation worse. If your child thinks they are being bullied or encounters offensive on-line content, encourage them to find someone they feel safe talking to. It is also important to remember that most social media platforms restrict access to children 13 + years.
Below is a parental portal to answer any questions you might have https://www.qld.gov.au/youth/being-safe-knowing-your-rights/staying-safe/stop-cyberbullying/for-parents-and-carers
Kind regards
Leanne Bell

Year 3 - 4 News from the Deputy

Hello,
We are half way through the term and the school is buzzing with activity. It has been lovely popping into classes this week and seeing the learning that is taking place. I had the pleasure of seeing Mr Clair’s students in 3C use concrete manipulatives in mathematics to develop and deepen their ability to relate and connect numbers. It’s also fun and engaging

Also in 3C the students have been working hard on their learning goal. Setting challenging learning goals to support their learning, progress and outcomes. Each student has a goal for reading, English and Mathematics developed with the teacher based on their work so far.

I was also lucky to observe a PBL focus skill lesson in 3E. The students unpacked the focus skill creating images and strategies.

Trinity Beach State School is a brilliant School.
Kind regards,
Emma Taylor
Prep - Year 2 News from the Deputy

Can you believe we are half way through the school term already?
Congratulations to all P-2 teachers and students for settling into their classroom routines so smoothly. It has been so lovely to walk into classrooms and see happy, engaged learners and equally happy and enthusiastic teachers.
Please remember that EVERYDAY COUNTS! We need your children here at school EVERYDAY. Everyday that they are away, they miss out on important learning and it puts them further behind their peers. PLEASE make sure your child is attending school every day unless they are unwell.
There are a number of up coming events in the Prep to year 2 space in the second half of this term.
Kindy teacher visit
I have invited all out local feeder Kindergarten teachers to visit our Prep classrooms in week 7. This will give them the opportunity to see what Prep looks like at the start of the school year, and also see what our talented Prep students have learnt in the previous weeks of school. There will be an opportunity for students to reconnect with their Kindy teacher during the start of the lunch break as well.
Prep Reading Parent Information Sessions
In week 9 and 10 Rachel Black, our Head of Department Curriculum for Prep- 2 and I will be running two parent information sessions for our Prep families about how we teach reading here at Trinity Beach State School. Keep an eye out in your emails for an invite in the coming days.
Crazy Hat Parade
On Thursday 30 March at 9.15am we will be hosting our annual P-2 Crazy Hat Parade. Students will be learning Easter songs in class and will have the opportunity to parade their Hats to the other students and family members. We invite students to work with their families to create a ‘crazy hat’. All families welcome to join the fun. More information will be shared by classroom teachers closer to the date.
P-2 Cross Country
The P-2 Cross Country will be held on the last day of term Friday 31 March between 9-11. Students will be encouraged to get in the team spirit and represent their sports house for their running event. This is a very exciting morning and all family members are welcome
Year 3 - 6 News from the Deputy

Thank you to students and parents who have welcomed me back with smiles and greetings over the past two weeks. One of the most exciting experiences in my return has been learning that my prep students back from 2017 are now in year 6 and almost at the end of their primary schooling journey. How amazing I feel to be a part of that.
In my role as Deputy Principal, I am looking forward to working together with teachers, students and families of Years 3 to 6. I have enjoyed visiting all the classrooms and have seen high levels of learning and engagement. What a great team of teachers and support staff we have to help our students be successful.

HOSES Contribution Newsletter Week 2, Term 1, 2023
We’re now at the half way mark of the term and it has been wonderful to see students settled into class routines.
In the Inclusive Education Centre this term, staff from our regional office have been working with Prep teachers and IEC staff to build understanding of evidence-based strategies to best support Prep learners with additional needs. We also reflected on the concepts of Equity and Equality in education.
What does equity in education mean?
In education, the term equity refers to the principle of fairness.
Equity in education is the process of reforming practices, policies, and procedures at the school and regional level to support academic fairness and inclusion and ensure that every child has the resources, teachers, interventions, and supports they need to be successful.
What does equality in education mean?
- Educational equity is thestudy and achievement of fairness, justice, and impartiality (equality) in education. The term equity means accommodating and meeting the specific needs of specific individuals. This means ensuring that everyone’s learning needs are met.
How do we define the differences between equity and equality in education?
- In an “equal” system, all students are given the same resources. In an “equitable” system, resources are given to students based on their individual needs.
You can see an example of equality and equity in the image below. In the top row of bikes, everyone’s bike is the same, but it is only the right size for one person. In the bottom row of bikes, everyone has a bike that suits their level of need – this is an example of a reasonable adjustment.
If you would like to learn more about inclusion at our school or discuss reasonable adjustments for your student, please make a time to see me in the Inclusive Education Centre.
Samantha Ilic

Year 3-6 Curriculum News from the Head of Deparment

We are now at the half way mark and students are well and truly engaged in their curriculum and have settled back into classroom routines. Over the coming weeks assessments across all learning areas will be beginning to take place, please check your child’s year level newsletters to see when assessments are scheduled.
NAPLAN will take place from the 15th of March to the 27th of March for our Year 3 and Year 5 students. If you have any questions about NAPLAN please see your child’s teacher.
Guided reading is currently occurring in classrooms four times a week as well as an explicit lesson of the focus comprehension strategies. Teachers have been working hard to plan and develop engaging sessions, aligned to the requirements of the Australian Curriculum. We encourage all our students to read variety of different types of text at home and have conversations about them with the parents/guardians.
Prep - Year 2 Curriculum News from the Head of Department

We are at the halfway mark for term 1 2023 and are well underway in achieving our curriculum outcomes for this term.
Reading is one of our priority areas here at Trinity Beach. Classes are engaged in explicit guided reading sessions at least 4 times per week. I have been visiting all classrooms to see our students hard at work learning to read and reading to learn. In our collaborative planning meetings last week, the prep, year 1 and year 2 teams engaged in discussions around student reading goals.
The evidence suggests that when students are given or establish a goal, they may experience a sense of satisfaction when reaching it. As they pursue a goal, students are more likely to engage in activities they believe will help them achieve it.
Why not ask your child what their reading goal is?
Rachel Black
Guidance Officer News

We are very fortunate to have an amazing support which is re-starting at our school.
Family and Child Connect – This service visits the school each Tuesday afternoon (from about 1pm – 3.30pm), and Holly Haste is the worker designated to our school. This service also operates over school holiday periods from their main office, in Cairns city. Families can engage with this service in order to be linked with appropriate support options for their children. Families can self-refer or be referred through the school – via Deputy Principal or Guidance Officer.
Contact details: P: 07 4033 8500 (Cairns office) or Mobile: 0458 735 738 (Holly’s work phone).
PBL - Positive Behaviour for Learning is our Whole School Approach for behaviour
The fundamental philosophy of PBL is that we cannot assume that our students know how to behave at school if they haven’t been explicitly taught the expectations required.
Each fortnight our PBL team meets to analyse the behaviour data to determine what needs to be taught or revised in regard to our school expectations. These expectations are then taught as focus skills in the classroom and on parade. The language is used by all staff and the posters are displayed around the school and on our school’s Facebook page so that they can be reiterated at home. This week our focus skill is ‘Respect Other People’s Personal Space’. This is an important message to share with our students as we are seeing a slight rise in wrestling games at school that don’t fit with our school rule to ‘Be Safe’
Pop into parade on Monday from 2:15pm to see our new TBSS Breaking News segment thanks to the Mr Terry’s Drama Extension team. Each week the news team helps our students understand our Behaviour Focus.
