Year 6 Term 2, 2023 Curriculum Overview
Term overview
Welcome to Term 2! We finished last term with an amazing experience on camp and it’s great to see everyone back ready for the term.
Term 2 is a very busy term with lots of events on so it is important that students are at school every day. Being organised and ready to start the day is essential to your child’s education. Students should have all their equipment ready to start each day. Please check with your child regularly that they have everything they need for school, particularly consumables and easily misplaced items such as pencils, erasers, glue, rulers etc. These often need replacing each term.
The assessment schedule for Term 2 is included in this outline (see table below), this provides a good insight into what your child is working on in class and their assessment task. If you have any questions regarding this please contact your child’s classroom teacher. We look forward to a positive and productive term.
Important dates:
Swimming – This term Year 6 students are participating in 8 swimming lessons over a 2 week block. Please ensure your child remembers to bring their togs, towels and change of underwear to school on the appropriate days so that they are able to participate in these lessons.

IEC
What a great start we have had in the year 6 IEC class for Term 2.
This term we are focussing on our computer skills and being able to independently log on, access the set class work and having a go completing tasks on our own.
Year 6 students accessing the IEC have been focussing on our school rules - Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be a Learner and what that looks like in the classroom and playground environments. These students are demonstrating that they are responsible and respectful senior students at TBSS and are working hard each day in their classrooms and in the IEC.
The year 6 students have begun Block one swimming and Block 2 will commence from the 15th May. An invitation from Smithfield State High School for their Year 7 Information Session was emailed to parents of children in Years 5 and 6 and is also located in our school newsletter.
I can be contacted on lcroa4@eq.edu.au or in my office in the Inclusive Education Centre (IEC) should you have any further questions or concerns.
