Year 6 - Term 3 Curriculum Overview 2023
Term 3
Welcome back to Term 3! The students have been re-engaging with their learning after a well-deserved break. Hopefully you all had a chance to recharge and are ready for the second half of the year. Term 3 is a very busy term with lots of events on, including our trip to the reef, so it is important that students are at school every day. Being organised and ready to start the day is essential to your child’s education. Students should have all their equipment ready to start each day. Please check with your child regularly that they have everything they need for school, particularly consumables and easily misplaced items such as pencils, erasers, glue, rulers etc. These often need replacing each term.
Reef trip - 24th and the 25th of August
Information and forms for the reef trip will be going home towards shortly. We will share further details as it becomes available.
To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Queensland Government, through the Great Barrier Reef Education Experience Program, will provide a subsidy to the school of $40.00 per student who attends the excursion.
The assessment schedule for Term 3 is included in this outline (see table below), this provides a good insight into what your child is working on in class and their assessment task. If you have any questions regarding this please contact your child’s classroom teacher. We look forward to a positive and productive term.

- Pause empowers students to self-regulate their own behaviour by taking notice and acting on the signals they receive from their brain in a positive way.
- Wellbeiing underpins the way children feel about themselves and how they relate to others.
- Pause improves children’s wellbeing by teaching them about Neuroscience and Mindfulness.
Reading & Spelling
Our school continues to embed a whole school approach to reading and spelling across Prep to Year 6. This involves teaching the reading and spelling demands of the Australian Curriculum, providing students with a systematic synthetic phonics approach and unpacking the Big 6/Science of Reading through engaging and meaningful lessons.
