Principal Message
Year 5 - 6 News from the Deputy

We are fast approaching the end of a very busy term. Our Year 6 students have only last week spent the day out on the Great Barrier Reef, researching the health of the reef in order to complete their Science assessments. Despite the weather and swell, students enjoyed the day out of the classroom. Those of our students heading to Smithfield State High School in 2024, should have brought a subject selection form home. It is important that families have completed the enrolment process to ensure that students receive their first preferences in elective subjects. Subject Selection forms need to be returned to the high school.
Next term our aspiring Year 5 leaders will have the opportunity to nominate for 2024 school leadership positions. Students who would like to be considered will bring home a permission form in Week 2 which also outlines the election process. We are encouraging all inspiring leaders to have a conversation with their parents/ carers and teachers regarding what leadership looks like and the qualities that make a good leader.
Our awards night will also be held next term. While most awards will be determined by academic results and teacher nomination, students will be required to self-nominate for citizenship awards and sporting awards. Any student who has volunteered their time to assist the school or community is eligible for a citizenship award. Sports awards are awarded to a student who has been selected in a Peninsula, FNQ, State or National Team. Nomination forms will be sent home early next term.
Have a safe holiday and we will see everyone back Term 4.
Year 3 - 4 News from the Deputy

What an exciting term of learning and events we have had this term. Excursions, the Variety Bash, Bully No Way Day just to name a few. Only 1 more week to go until school holidays! What a beautiful time of the year it is, I hope you have something enjoyable planned for over the spring break 😊
Curriculum
Students and teachers have been working extremely hard the last couple of weeks to finalise assessments for English, Maths and Science. Both Year 3 and 4 students were lucky enough to have excursions linked to their units this term, enhancing their learning experience. All students in attendance had an amazing time and I’m sure families heard all about it. A big thank you to all of the parents who volunteered their time to attend, we really appreciate your support.

There are plenty more fun and exciting things happening throughout Term 4. Be sure to keep an eye out for Year Level Overviews in Week 2 next term, these will provide information about all of the units of work that students will be completing for the final term of the year as well as important dates.
Once again, thank you for all of your support over Term 3, it’s been another wonderful term 😊

Ditto Show
Next term we will be hosting Bravehearts’ Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure show for all Prep-2 students.
The Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure show is age appropriate, interactive, entertaining, thoughtful and engaging. Ditto, the star of the show, along with an education facilitator, bring children on a fun journey of personal safety education through music and relatable characters.
The show is underpinned by the following six principles of personal safety:
- Differentiating safe and unsafe feelings
- Recognising the bodies warning signs
- Identifying private body parts, public body parts, and private and public places
- Helping children identify language and feelings associated with secrets, and to identify adults to Go and Tell for their Safety Team
- Reinforcing that there is no secret that children cannot tell someone
- Knowing what to do if they feel unsafe or unsure
Ditto’s 3 rules for keeping safe!
- We all have the right to feel safe with people
- It’s ok to say NO if you feel unsafe or unsure
- Nothing is so yucky that you can’t tell someone about it
Parents are welcome to come to the free show in the hall.
Date: 24th October 2023 Prep – 11.45am
Year 1 and 2 – 2.05pm
Further information will be emailed home by your class teacher.
Prep 2024
We are encouraging everyone who has a child born between 1st July 2018 and 30 June 2019 to complete your enrolment paperwork and submit it to the school administration. Enrolment interviews are well underway and Stay and Plays are not that far away!
Don’t miss out on these key transition opportunities.
If you have any questions please call the Julie, our Prep Enrolment officer.
Under 8s day
The biggest most exciting day in the P-2 calendar is almost here… Under 8s Day!!! On Friday the 15th of September, under the JLC and 1/2 oval will come alive with exciting activities and displays.
We invite everyone who is under 8 (and their parents/carers) from not just our school but our local community to come and join us and celebrate everything great about being under 8! Huge thanks to Ms Hanley and Mrs Passfield for all the hard work putting this event together!
Head of Inclusive Education News

As Term 3 comes to a close, Inclusive Education Team members begin to focus on transition planning. Planning for transition supports students as they move through the various stages of learning and assists with student wellbeing and engagement.
At Trinity Beach State School, we offer focussed and intensive transition support for students with disability and students with additional needs to address barriers they may experience to successfully start school through our Early Years Pathways program, moving to secondary education in conjunction with local high schools, and moving within the school to different year levels.
Transition planning strategies for students with disability and additional needs consider the needs of students and their families, enabling staff at our school to identify and provide reasonable adjustments and supports so students can access and participate in their education at all learning stages.
Organisations such as Raising Children (www.raisingchildren.net.au) and Positive Partnerships (www.positivepartnerships.com.au) offer some great online resources to support student transitions. The Autism Hub (https://autismhub.education.qld.gov.au) also offer a number of resources to support students with autism to participate in transition.
Please visit the Inclusive Education Centre (access and parking via Huon Street) if you feel your child may require additional support to transition to our school (Prep), within our school (year level to year level) or from our school (Year 6 into 7).
Kind regards,
SAMANTHA ILIC

Year 3-6 Curriculum News from the Head of Deparment

As we come to the end of Term 3, our amazing teachers are working hard to get all assessments marked and give feedback to the students about how they can continue to improve.
This week I have had the pleasure of meeting with teachers to moderate work samples from the year 3-6 cohorts to ensure consistency in marking across all classes. Through this process, I have seen some amazing travel brochures from our year 6 students, in depth analysis of historical poems from the year 5, incredible cereal box designs from year 4 and beautiful poetry about their trip to the beach from our year 3 students.

On top of all this amazing work we have had an extremely busy term with whole school events and excursions. The Art showcase presented by Mrs Graham and our instrumental music teachers was a great success with brilliant pieces of art and musical performances form our Junior and Senior strings and concert bands. Excursion wise, we had our year 6 reef trip, year 4 trip the Portsmith Waste Management Facility, the year 3 trip to the beach and the Box Jellyfish Co performance.
Thanks to all our teachers and teacher aides who make all these amazing opportunities possible for our students. I look forward to seeing our students back ready to continue to impress us all in Term 4.
Prep - Year 2 Curriculum News from the Head of Department

As we near the end of term 3 classes will be finishing up their unit work and starting their assessments. These assessments provide teachers with valuable information about what students have learned, how well they learned it and areas to focus on next.
Diving deeper into spelling
The Prep to Year 2 teachers have been engaged in professional learning over the past few weeks aimed at further building on the many components of spelling.
We explored:
Morphology – the study of meaningful word units such as prefixes, bases, roots and suffixes.
Etymology – the study of the origin of words and Syntax
Syntax – The study of the grammatical relations between words and other units within the sentence.

Book Fair
Thank you to all who came to the book fair in week 7. Every purchase made at book fair equates to Scholastic dollars for the school to spend on books and resources. Your purchases have contributed to approximately $1500 worth of new books for our library. These books will be hitting the library shelves soon.

New Furniture for the Library
Thanks to a donation from our amazing P&C, we have been able to source some new library furniture. We purchased some new shelves and book tubs to house our growing number of books and some tables for activity centres. The students especially love sitting and reading at our new ottoman tables.

Guidance Officer News

Hello everyone!! With the school holidays fast approaching, I’m aware this can be a time of high stress for students. Sometimes, we do not see the impacts of this at school, but you may be seeing it at home.
If you have concerns about your child’s wellbeing over the school holiday period, here are some things you can do.
- Make an appointment with your GP for your child (and you) to attend together. If a face to face appointment is not possible, Telehealth (over the phone) appointments can also be a good option. Discuss your worries with your GP, and see what supports / ideas they can offer. All GPs have training in assessing mental health and wellbeing.
- Link with phone or online services to get some ideas on promoting wellbeing for your child. A range of excellent websites and phone services are available – here are a few links to get you started.
Parentline – phone 1300 301 300 or online at www.parentline.com.au
Kids’ Help Line – phone 1800 551 800 or online at https://kidshelpline.com.au
Beyond Blue – phone 1300 224 636 or https://healthyfamilies.beyondblue.org.au
- Speak with services to get some support for you / your child / children – some options include:
Uniting Care Counselling – Provide 1:1 counselling for children and adults, and can do this at school for children if needed, families can self-refer – Ph 1300 096 203
Centacare counselling – Provide 1:1 counselling for children and adults, and can do this at school for children if needed, families can self-refer – Ph 4044 0130
Act for Kids – Family and Child Connect – Families can engage with this service in order to be linked with appropriate support options for their children – Ph 4033 8500. The FACC worker linked with our school is Holly Haste – she is happy to be contacted directly on her work mobile, which is 0458 735 738.
PBL - Positive Behaviour for Learning is our Whole School Approach for behaviour
A few weeks ago, we started our new Pause Program at TBSS in years P-6. This is a program that teaches students about social and emotional well-being and strategies regulate their behaviour. Students have been learning about the 3 main parts of the brain, the Pre-frontal Cortex, the Amygdala and the Hippocampus and how these all work together. Students also created their very own Mind Jar which is a tool that students use as part of the Pause Strategy to help them to calm their thoughts and regulate their emotions again. Students are very enthusiastic to learn about the brain and the science behind it and word getting around is that many students have already been educating parents and family about this too!

A parent session will be offered early in Term 4 to share with parents a little more about the Pause Program and ways that this can be used at home as well as school. Keep a look out on our Facebook page for more information regarding this.

Q Parents
To continue to streamline the school’s sale for all items – school fees, excursions, performances, instrumental music we are moving to a cashless school. This allows our school to reduce the time, effort and expenses required to collect and follow up payments from parents and students. When you receive an invoice payments can be made online via BPOINT or QParents.
We are proud of being a relatively-cashless school and thank you for moving online with us!
QParents
QP is an online portal helping the school move toward a cashless and paper friendly school.
- The QP portal allows Parents and Carers to grant participation consent online for activities such as swimming and excursions which reduces our need to print out paper consent forms
- Also, the QP portal enables Parents and Carers to make payment online for school activities and viewing unpaid invoices payment history.
Thank you to all those parents who have registered for QParents. This means every registered parent now has the opportunity to access to their children’s student records at their fingertips, anytime, anywhere. Haven’t received an invitation from us yet? There’s still time! Please let us know immediately. Or if you are simply looking for further information, videos and FAQs on QParents, visit https://qparents.qld.edu.au

Sports News
Ty Williams Cup
On Thursday 31 August our Year 3/4 Rugby League team played in the annual Ty Williams Cup at Jones Park, Cairns. Despite having very little opportunity to train, what with wet weather and oval closures, the team put in an outstanding performance on the day. This is a non-competitive event with an emphasis on team work and promoting school sport, although naturally each team plays to win! This is what the Coach, Mr O'Grady (Instrumental Music Teacher) said about the carnival:
"It was a great day for the team going undefeated with four wins and a draw. Very proud of the effort, teamwork and sportsmanship of all the players. Huge thank you to the parents who were there to come and support the players."
We want to give a big thanks to Mr O'Grady for giving up his lunch times to train and for attending on the day. As a local Ivanhoes player himself, it is very fortunate we can have him as our school footy coach too!
Words from the players:
Eli Dacey: We had lots of fun and made new friends!
Oliver P: I want to thank all the other schools that came and played - but they just weren't good enough to beat us!!
Zane: I loved getting a day off school to play lots of footy!
Great work to all players on the team!

A good day for the under 12 competitive division. They played 7 games and only lost one so just missed out on the final.

We had 3 teams representing Trinity Beach Star School in the Fowlers Cup netball competition. Each team showed exceptional sportsmanship when they played against teams from all around the district. A huge thank you to Kiralee, Lauren and Samara who umpired our games for us.

School Improvement Focus
The single biggest predictor of academic success is reading to children. Not worksheets, not flash cards, not iPad apps, not fancy private schools or blinking toys. It is mum, dad or carers taking the time every day or night (or both) to sit and read them wonderful books

The Variety Bash
The Variety children’s charity rally cars. Approximately 100 rally cars and 400 fundraisers were here at around 12.15pm. The TV crews arrived…
Parents welcomed! Our P&C Association catered for the event contributing 1000s of dollars to our school.

Variety is a children’s fundraiser supporting sick and disadvantaged young people. The rally finish line
was Trinity Beach State School Tropical North Learning Academy. The energy and excitement was heard from afar. What an experience that won’t be forgotten!

Trinity Beach SS P&C Association… you are nothing short of amazing! We are the luckiest school in QLD. Thank you to all the parent volunteers and our Operations Manger Jodi Brown for leading the team to cater for over 350 Variety Rally members.Variety organiser Bear informed the Principal (seen in a rally car lapping the oval…
) that this was the most successful conclusion to the rally fundraiser they had witnessed in 15 years. When asked why, the response was… “respect from the 1000 students was nothing like they had seen and the food was amazing!”
From Trinity Beach State School Tropical North Learning Academy we thank you. #
