Year 5 - 6 News from the Deputy

Year 5-6 news from the Deputy
Welcome to Term 4! At the end of this term, we will be saying good bye to our Year 6 cohort. Starting high school or moving to a new school can be an exciting adventure and the start of a wonderful new stage in your child's life.
Going to high school gives young people the knowledge and skills they need to find a job or take on further training or study after finishing school. The people they meet at school can also help them develop social ties and support networks that will stay with them throughout their lives.
By being positive about the change and helping them with the practical details, you are equipping them to get the best possible start to their life at high school.
The Spark their Future website contains lots of useful information including tips to help your child make a positive transition to high school.

Awards Night
Trinity Beach State School will be hosting an award night on Thursday 9th of November from 6pm – 7:30pm (Week 6). Families of students who will be receiving an award will be invited to the Awards Night event over the coming weeks. This ceremony recognises the outstanding achievements of our students throughout their final year of primary school in all areas of academics, sport, the Arts as well as recognizing service to the local community.
Transition Day – Smithfield State High School
Our Year 6 students who have enrolled for Smithfield State High School in 2024 will spend the day at the high school on the 6th of December (Week 10). Students must be dropped to the front of SSHS in the morning at 8:30am and picked up in the afternoon at 2:30pm. On Transition Day, students will meet their new classes and some of their new teachers. They will learn how to find their way around the school, and the names and faces of people who can help them next year. They will also have some lessons introducing them to work they’ll do next year.
Students are to wear primary school uniform on Transition Day. Don’t forget to pack lunch, water bottles, hats and pens.
Year 6 Graduation Ceremony
Year 6 will have their Graduation Ceremony on Thursday 7th December at 9:30 am in the TBSS multipurpose hall. Parents and close family are invited to celebrate the conclusion of their child’s primary school education. During the ceremony as each student is called to the stage we display their Year 6 photo side by side with a photo from the beginning of their school journey. To do this we are asking families to provide a photo from either Kindy or Prep. Can you please send us your chosen photo as an email attachment or send a photo to school with your child to be scanned and then returned.
Year 5 & 6 Bring Your Own Device (BYOx) 2024
Next year all Year 6 classes will be BYOx classes. Families of those students who were successful in being placed in a Year 5 BYOx class have already been notified. An email has been sent with details of the upcoming Technical Information session on Tuesday 24th October at 4:30pm. Onboarding sessions (opportunity to work with our technical staff to set up your child’s laptop) will occur the week before school starts in 2024.
Kind regards
Leanne Bell
Deputy Years 5 & 6
Year 3 - 4 News from the Deputy

Welcome to the 4th and final term for 2023, wow where has this year gone! As you may have already noticed, I am still here at TBSS and I’m excited to say that I will be with our lovely Year 3 & 4 students and staff until the end of the year which I’m over the moon about 😊 I do however have some leave this term in Weeks 3 & 4 when I will be visiting Thailand for my very first time. There will be a staff member replacing me while I am away so everything will continue to operate as normal across Year 3 & 4.
CURRICULUM
Students have started their new units of work for English, Maths and Science and will be busy completing their HASS unit for Semester 2. English is especially exciting this term as all of our Year 3 & 4 students get to show off their creativity through narrative writing. Our Year 3’s have been enjoying listening to and creating Traditional Stories whist our Year 4’s enjoy a classic novel by Roald Dahl “The Twits”. Our Year 3/4 class are busy this term comparing texts and film looking at the story “A Diary of a Whimpy Kid”. Stay tuned for more exciting samples in the coming weeks as our students delve deeper into their units!

QUESTIONS/CONCERNS/MEETINGS
Just a reminder that should you have a question or concern in regards to curriculum, the playground or anything else regarding your child, the classroom teacher is always the best point of contact. They will have the most information to answer you queries as well as all of the background knowledge regarding your child therefore will be able to assist you the best. Classroom teachers will then seek my involvement should this be required. Please remember that mornings are very busy for teachers so if you would like to speak with them, please make an appointment to ensure they are able to give you their full attention and their planning for the day is not interrupted as this then impacts student learning.
Enjoy the next couple of weeks and I look forward to seeing everyone when I return from leave 😊
Prep - Year 2 News from the Deputy

Before school drop offs and supervision
We are noticing an increase of students in the year 1 and 2 grades being dropped off before 8.15am with some students arriving at 7.40am and being left under the Junior Learning Centre (JLC). There is no supervision before 8.15am. Any families that need to drop off prior to 8.15am should be accessing the Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) for appropriate care for their child/ren.
Students dropped off from 8.15 need to make their way to the Covered Outdoor Learning Centre (COLA) to sit until the 8.30 bell with supervision. At 8.30 they will be released to go to their classroom areas. We thank you for your support in keeping your children safe.
Prep 2024
Stay and plays are underway! These are designed to support our 2024 preppies to have a strong start to their schooling journey. If you have a child born between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019 they are eligible for prep in 2024. I would strongly encourage you to complete your enrolment paperwork and submit it to the school administration team who will then give you access to book an enrolment interview and book in for the remaining Stay and Play sessions. Handing in your enrolment paperwork also supports the school with their staffing for 2024 as we need to work out how many classes we need based on the number of enrolments we have.
Chookas to all those students involved in the School Musical for next week! Everyone’s hard work ready to be put on show!
Head of Inclusive Education News

In Term 4, our focus in the Inclusive Education Centre is to ensure students have the tools they need to transition to their new year levels and classes for 2024.
Transition for students starting Prep
Students with additional needs are supported by our Early Years Pathways Teacher, Jade Kerkhoven, to transition to our school. Jade supports incoming Prep students during ‘Prep 2024 Stay and Play’ sessions and engages with children and their families at playgroup and early years centres. Jade’s work with children 0-5 years and their families supports them to become part of the Trinity Beach State School community.
Year Level to Year Level
Students with additional needs already enrolled at our school experience transition from their current year level to their next year level by becoming familiar with staff, students, play spaces and learning areas. We do this incidentally and intentionally so that students are well prepared for their 2024 year level.
Year 6 to High School
Year 6 Senior students begin preparation for Year 7 and starting high school early in the school year. In Term 3, students with additional needs meet teachers and staff from Smithfield State High School and work through ‘what to expect at high school’ sessions with SSHS Staff and Year 6 IEC Teacher Lisa Croatto. In Term 4, students visit Smithfield State High School every week and put their theory from Term 3 into practice as they get to know all about high school.

Resources
The Department of Education has some great resources for transition for students with autism (that are useful resources for all children) including the online Transition Resource package found here https://autismhub.education.qld.gov.au/resources/online-transition-resource
If you would like support or ideas for transition for your child, please see me in the Inclusive Education Centre.
Kind regards,
Samantha Ilic
HEAD OF INCLUSIVE EDUCATION
Year 3-6 Curriculum News from the Head of Deparment

Welcome to our new families who have joined our school community over the school holidays and welcome back to all our existing families.
Term 4 is our final term for the year and we have lots of exciting things happening like the musical, colour run and carols night.
Many of our teachers and students have been putting in the big hours to put the finishing touches on the musical. It is looking and sounding fantastic! I encourage everyone to purchase tickets to watch our talented students Perform High School Musical Jnr.
Keeping with the musical theme, in week 2 the Smithfield State High School Band and Jazz Academy performed for our year 3 students to share the various possibilities in participating in our incredible Instrumental Music program we have at Trinity Beach State School and Smithfield State High School.
Our year 3 students were handed an expression of interest form and are encourage to fill it out and return to ASAP if they wish to be part of the program in 2024.

Over the past couple of months, I have had the opportunity of working with 3 of our year 5 students, Jasmin Marks, Adam Huntington and Salvatore Brunetto. They have been working all year on a sustainability project called “Gifted Global Greens”. As part of this program, they have designed a drink coaster that aims to educate people not to litter. Keep an eye out for their design the next time you are at Bluewater Bar and Grill!

Prep - Year 2 Curriculum News from the Head of Department

Welcome back to Term 4, the last term of the 2023 school year. It’s wonderful to see students back after their break eager to engage in learning!
Term curriculum overviews from each year level will be sent out next week to all families, these provide a snap shot of what students are learning in class. An assessment schedule is also included in the overview so parents and carers are aware of when students will have assessment tasks occurring throughout the term.
Here at Trinity Beach SS, one of the many ways we support our focus of “every student reading, every student succeeding” is through our Reading Club. Reading club provides reading opportunities, engagement and enjoyment for students prior to the commencement of the school day. It is always lovely to see students engaged in quiet calm reading before they start their day and students really enjoy tracking the number of times they have been to reading club in their log book.
We asked some of our regular attenders why they enjoy coming to reading club:

Mental Health Week
This week is Mental Health week across Queensland. The theme this year was “Awareness, Belonging and Connection.”
Trinity Beach State School was given the wonderful opportunity to host our very first Belonging Breakfast event, with the aim of connecting our community members, parents and families to a wide variety of support services around mental health awareness and wellbeing.
These included Act for Kids, Centacare, Child and Youth Mental Health and our school social worker Barbie who provided free mindfulness resources for our community.
A huge thankyou to the Parents and Citizens Association, for securing funds from a Queensland Mental Health Week grant, and assisting with organisation, setup and running of the event.
Many thanks to Stefan from Centacare who provided students and families the opportunity to learn and practise African-style drumming with an impressive drum circle.
Thank you to local councillor Brett Olds and our Principal Mr Hollis for assistance on a very busy breakfast duty!
Marlin Coast Neighbourhood Centre, Act for Kids and Child and Youth Mental Health staff provided activities for students and information for families about the supports they can offer.
Finally, thank you to the staff, student councillors and parents who volunteered their morning and took the opportunity to show others true connection and belonging. It was great to see our families enjoying themselves at the event, coming together with staff members to engage in conversations about the importance of mental health.

Q Parents
To continue to streamline the school’s sale for all items – school fees, excursions, performances, instrumental music we are moving to a cashless school. This allows our school to reduce the time, effort and expenses required to collect and follow up payments from parents and students. When you receive an invoice payments can be made online via BPOINT or QParents.
We are proud of being a relatively-cashless school and thank you for moving online with us!
QParents
QP is an online portal helping the school move toward a cashless and paper friendly school.
- The QP portal allows Parents and Carers to grant participation consent online for activities such as swimming and excursions which reduces our need to print out paper consent forms
- Also, the QP portal enables Parents and Carers to make payment online for school activities and viewing unpaid invoices payment history.
Thank you to all those parents who have registered for QParents. This means every registered parent now has the opportunity to access to their children’s student records at their fingertips, anytime, anywhere. Haven’t received an invitation from us yet? There’s still time! Please let us know immediately. Or if you are simply looking for further information, videos and FAQs on QParents, visit https://qparents.qld.edu.au

3B Mrs Stansfield Roach (SR) | Mathematics concepts being reviewed with hands on manipulatives.

1C and 1D enjoyed an Author’s visit from our talented Year 3 Teacher, Ms Timena Rhodes. Ms Rhodes journey started 20 years ago. She is an author of 3 published books Keep Shining Bright, You Belong Here Too and Deep Listening, with another eight stories currently written, but not yet published. Ms Rhodes spoke to the children about the different parts of a story and where she finds her inspiration.
Thank you, Ms Rhodes, for your gift of a book for our class and a bookmark for the children.

1B experimented with pasta and marshmallows to try and make spaghetti towers. The children had to work in teams and decide how they were going to make a tower that wouldn’t fall over. There were lots of amazing conversations in the teams about how to make a base that was stable and what they needed to do to stop the tower from falling down. Even when the towers fell down the children didn’t give up and tried different ideas.
The children had an awesome time.

In the Playground
From vegetable gardens to hedging and maintaining our gardens the TBSS students are demonstrating amazing respect for our environment. Thank you little garden warriors for your help even at 8.30am in the morning …

It’s good to see our students displaying kindness and respect during recess. It’s cool to be calm…

Student Council
Our Student Council members have been connecting and respecting our elderly. This year we have visited Caravonica Waters Retirement Village and now have formed relationships through writing letters. The students were enthralled to read the letters from the elders.

Did you know?
High School Musical was originally written in 1999, with a version of the script called Grease 3. It would have followed Danny and Sandy's kids in a plot almost identical to that of High School Musical's, only with serious similarities to Grease. Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were reportedly in mind for the lead roles.
I still think our version will be better! Book your tickets now
