Principal Message
Year 5 - 6 News from the Deputy

Over the last week, I have had the pleasure of interviewing our school captain 2024 candidates - these interviews continue into next week. Students who successfully make it through to the next round will present speeches at a special parade on Friday 24th November. I have been impressed with the quality of all our candidates. So many of our students dedicate their time to providing a service to their community and our school community. Candidates have been speaking passionately about our school and the projects they would like to initiate in 2024. Unfortunately though, not every student can be selected. Successful candidates will find out on Monday 13th November.
Ms Donovan and Ms Powell our HPE teachers, have also been shortlisting candidates for school house captains. Successful candidates will present speeches at a house parade on Friday 17th November.
A reminder that our Awards Night presentation will occur on Thursday 9th November. This evening will showcase our high achieving students in a variety of fields. It is good to recognise our students who often are our quiet achievers and who do so much for our school. If you have a child attending, dress code is smart casual & a reminder that seating for families must be booked as outlined on the invitation.
Another exciting event is our Year 6 Graduation ceremony. With graduation is also transition to high school. If you have not already enrolled at Smithfield SHS, their last enrolment session will be held on the 8th November. Please contact the high school if you would like any further information. We already have some of our Year 6’s participating in weekly transition sessions. For the majority of our students transition day is the last Wednesday of the term – 6th December. A flyer has been sent home with your child providing the important information. Understandingly our students are nervous about what high school will be like and the unknown routines and expectations. Transition day is an opportunity to meet their teachers, learn what classes they will have and also how to read a timetable.
As we move into the final weeks of the term, teachers will be encouraging students to stay focused and approach their assessments with resilience and confidence. I have been walking through classrooms and seeing all the wonderful learning that is happening. I see the evidence daily that Trinity Beach State School is a brilliant school!
Year 3 - 4 News from the Deputy

Hello Year 3/4 families! Can you believe we are halfway through the term already! The Year 3/4 cohorts are abuzz as they continue to build their knowledge across all Learning Areas in readiness for the upcoming assessment period.
CURRICULUM
As we approach assessment time, you may notice a change in moods of your children at home. Just continue to encourage them to do their best and to use the Pause Strategies that they have been learning in class to help them to self-regulate their emotions throughout this period. If you are unsure of what the Pause Strategies are, these can be located at the following website https://www.centacarefnq.org/the-pause-program. We are always so proud of our students at TBSS and look forward seeing all their hard work pay off!

YEAR 3-6 AWARDS CEREMONY
Our TBSS Annual Awards Ceremony will be happening on Thursday Evening, November 9th. This is a time where we acknowledge and celebrate the amazing students we are blessed with at Trinity Beach SS and all the wonderful things they do at school and in our greater community. Students who are receiving an award will have already received their invite in Week 3. Please be aware due to space, each recipient is only able to bring along 2 guests. We look forward to seeing you there!
UPCOMING EVENTS
We have some exciting events coming up to end the year. As mentioned already, we have our Year 3-6 Awards Ceremony next Thursday, November 9th. Friday, November 10th we have our school Colour Run. If you haven’t done so already, please register online and start your fundraising! Every little bit helps! In Week 9 we have our Carols evening. This will be happening on Thursday, November 30th so save the date!
As always, thank you for your continued support, have a wonderful few weeks and I look forward to seeing you out and about and at our upcoming events 😊
Prep - Year 2 News from the Deputy

Can you believe, that in just 5 weeks, or 25 school days, the 2023 school year will be over! I can not believe it! It feels like yesterday that we were welcoming our newest members through the balloon arches to start their schooling journey and now we are getting ready to welcome our next cohort of Preps into our school.
Stay and Plays were a huge success and I thank the many families that were able to make the time to attend these session. The difference between the children’s confidence from the first session and the last was noticeable and it was great to see new friendships starting already!
Transition
Towards the end of this term we will be running a transition session during school time for our Prep students to go up to the JLC and check out their new ‘home’ space for 2024 and 2025 and become familiar with the classrooms and the rules and expectations in this building. It is also a good time for parents to start thinking about where is a good ‘meeting spot’ pick up after school – often the bottom of the JLC stairs is a preferred spot.
Prep students have already started playground transitions, with each class having a designated second break to swap with a year 1 class and play in the 1/2 playground.
I will be working with Ms Carmody, 3-4 Deputy to support a similar transition for the year 2 students as they transition out of the JLC to the year 3 area.
Colour run
Next Friday is the colour run! I am excited to be out and getting messy at this event. The Student Council have put in a massive effort, supported by Ms Cavenett, to organise this Colour Run to fundraise for the school. Any school event is a massive undertaking for staff, which is above and beyond what they are asked to do in their role as a teacher, but it is the dedication by our staff that ensure students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of events including being a part of a Student Council and the decision making/ planning that goes with that. We love our school and we thank everyone for supporting our events… Oh and I believe that there maybe footage of me being slimed coming out soon… Tyler in 2E got to pick a person to slime, as one of the highest fundraisers, …and he picked me…!!!!
Behaviours
As we approach the end of the year and the temperature heats up, behaviour at school often tends to escalate. I am standing firm on our school rules and supporting teachers in ensuring our students are safe, respectful learners. Inappropriate language and physical behaviours are not acceptable through our school gates, neither is rude and disrespectful behaviour. Students will be given reminders through parades, PBL lessons as well as the many visual reminders around the school to support their behaviours but if they do not follow our rules there will be consequences given. The P-2 team and I aim to be as consistent as possible so that all students know the expected behaviour required as a student of our brilliant school. I thank you in advance for support this message at home as well.
Head of Inclusive Education News

Year 3-6 Curriculum News from the Head of Deparment

I can’t believe we are already halfway through the term! Our students are well and truly into their learning.
Our Gifted Global Green program finished on Monday this week at a celebration event at the Cairns Regional Council building. Jasmin, Adam and Salvatore spoke incredibly well to share all the great work they have completed in the program this year.

Leading into the end of the year is always a busy time at Trinity Beach. Our Carols Night is coming up on Thursday the 30th of November. Students will be completing assessments, teachers will be marking and writing reports to be sent out Thursday week 10, as well planning for next year and new version of the English Australian Curriculum. Some of the new units our teachers have designed are going to be great! For example, creating a news report on an animal adaptation and creating a travel brochure to support a persuasive conversation about traveling to a particular travel destination.

Prep - Year 2 Curriculum News from the Head of Department

Premier’s Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2023 is complete. It was amazing to see so many students and classes participate in this state wide initiative aimed at promoting literacy and a love of reading among students. Here at Trinity Beach SS, we had some amazing high achievers:
- The class with the most participants was 3F
- Chelsea 2B read a whopping 238 books!!
- Nyah 6E read 70 books
- Charlie 1B and Lilly 1C read 60 books
- Harry 3F read 50 books
All students who completed the challenge will receive a certificate to recognise their participation.

Upcoming Assessments
Over the next few weeks students will be engaged in assessments. Assessment is an integral part of our curriculum, providing valuable insights into your child's progress, strengths, and areas that may require additional support. It helps us tailor our teaching methods to meet each student's individual needs and ensures that we are achieving the highest possible standards of education.
Learning Walls
Ms Kaileh Cavenett has been working with teachers on how to use learning walls to drive student improvement, goal setting and feedback. The purpose of a learning wall is to make learning visible, engage students, and serve as a reference point for classroom lessons. Students know they can go to the learning wall to get important information on what quality work looks like and how they can succeed.
Students in Prep are using learning walls to improve their writing:

Pause Program
Over the next few weeks, students will continue to learn about Mindfulness including Mindful Movement, Listening and Thinking. It would be great if you could take the time to talk about this at home with your children, generally lessons are delivered weekly on a Tuesday.

Q Parents
To continue to streamline the school’s sale for all items – school fees, excursions, performances, instrumental music we are moving to a cashless school. This allows our school to reduce the time, effort and expenses required to collect and follow up payments from parents and students. When you receive an invoice payments can be made online via BPOINT or QParents.
We are proud of being a relatively-cashless school and thank you for moving online with us!
QParents
QP is an online portal helping the school move toward a cashless and paper friendly school.
- The QP portal allows Parents and Carers to grant participation consent online for activities such as swimming and excursions which reduces our need to print out paper consent forms
- Also, the QP portal enables Parents and Carers to make payment online for school activities and viewing unpaid invoices payment history.
Thank you to all those parents who have registered for QParents. This means every registered parent now has the opportunity to access to their children’s student records at their fingertips, anytime, anywhere. Haven’t received an invitation from us yet? There’s still time! Please let us know immediately. Or if you are simply looking for further information, videos and FAQs on QParents, visit https://qparents.qld.edu.au

Stop Drop and Go
Thank-you for safely using our Stop Drop and Go on both Madang and Wewak Streets.
Remember no parking and leaving your vehicle. This can be a safety risk for our students. Please refer to our signage to guide the flow.
Dangerous parking or driving can be reported to police via this link https://www.police.qld.gov.au/policelink-reporting

Attention TBSS Families, check out our budding entrepreneurs!
For their Business and Economics Unit this term, 5/6A researched, created and pitched business plans that focused on ways students could be involved with supporting fundraising efforts within our school community. The students' engagement and enthusiasm has blown us away and, over the next 2 weeks, they will be working in groups to action a few of the ideas they came up with, giving real world experience.
Please take a moment to look through the posters they have created to advertise their goods: jellybean guessing, a senior sausage sizzle, t-shirt decorating, adorable crochet and custom bracelets (just in time for the organised Christmas shopper!).

Run Club

Run Club IMPORTANT UPDATE from Nyah!Even with the EPIC High School Musical Jr production running last week we had a whopping 94 kids come to Run Club!!
It’s so amazing to see kids and parents come along. Sadly we have had a couple of hiccups and we need to enforce the following rules:
If you aren’t running at Run Club please go to the COLA before 8:30 am
If you aren’t participating in Run Club, please don’t help yourself to the fruit. (Many runners are missing out when they finish)If your band breaks, come back and see Nyah and she will replace it for you, broken bands won’t be accepted.
If you forget to count your bands and record your laps at the end of Run Club they CANNOT be added the following week.
Lastly, we need parent helpers to stand along the oval fence line to help keep an eye on our superstar runners, if you can spare 30 minutes at 8 a.m. on a Thursday your assistance would be much appreciated.
Thanks and see you at Run Club.
Run Club, the weather is heating up please remember to slip, slop, and slap before Run Club.

Week 3

Week 4

A Heartfelt Thank You to Max!
This week, we want to express our deepest gratitude to Max, a remarkable year 6 student who's been an integral part of our school's Bike Bus program since grade 1.
Max, your dedication and responsible leadership have left an indelible mark on our school. You've been a guiding light for our younger students, teaching them vital cycling road rules and showing them how to ride safely to and from school. Your impact on their lives is immeasurable!
As Max moves on to High school next year, we'll undoubtedly miss him on our regular weekly routes. But we know he'll continue to shine brightly in his new adventures. Max, we wish you all the best in High school and beyond. Thank you for being an incredible role model and a source of inspiration for us all!

Sports News
FNQ Rugby League 9s Year 5/6
On Friday 20 October our school team played 9-a-side games of Rugby League in a carnival against other schools in our region. Despite the hot weather and some very tough opponents our team rallied and played their best. We lost only by one point in our first two games and our last game was a draw.
A big thanks to Mr O'Grady for taking the time out to be with our team as coach on the day and all the lunch times he sacrificed training our team.
Players: Savannah B, Isabella B, Braxton, Jonny, Logan, Lucas F, Edward, Harlan, Christian S, Oliver S, Kobi, Mia S, Archer, Jaxon T, Charley D.

4 students from Trinity Beach competed in the Inter-School Mountain. Congratulations to Kendra, Johnny, Jaxon and Brax.
Kendra placed 2nd in the girls 10-12 age group and Brax came 1st in the 10-12 age group.

Well done to these Trinity Beach State School students who got invited to be a part of the Woolworths NetSetGO International Netball Series, Australian Diamonds vs South Africa series at the Cairns Convention Centre yesterday.
The girls sang the National Anthem on the court with the players and were part of the half time entertainment.
What a wonderful experience and opportunity for them all!

On Saturday the Cairns Wake Park held the battle of the schools wake boarding competition and 4 students from Trinity Beach entered, Lilly, Ahlia, Blaze and Aquila.
They came overall 3rd place.

Elizabeth competed in the SLSQ State [QLD] Pool Rescue championships a few months ago with some podium finishes.
Well, Elizabeth missed School last Thursday, Friday and Monday to represent Cairns at the North Aussies SLSQ Surf Lifesaving carnival held in Mackay.
This carnival format included a Pool Rescue Carnival on the Friday, followed by a full open water Carnival on the Saturday and Sunday. The carnival included representatives from across Australia, with some of the best national competitors travelling all the way from NSW, VIC, NT and WA – however most competitors were from across Qld.
The pool Carnival was held at the Mackay Aquatic centre, where Beth managed to secure a 2nd in the Rescue Medley event. An excellent result!
Saturday and Sunday saw surf conditions so severe that Southern Qld beaches were closed, combining 6-8 foot swells, a 5.8m tide and 25kt Onshore winds creating BIG surf conditions.Elizabeth took to the conditions and was rewarded with Gold medals in Cameron Relay and Board relay events.
We are extremely proud of her absolute commitment to training (usually 7-12 sessions a week) and dedication to her team-mates and sportsmanship, Elizabeth should be rightly proud of her achievements and just rewards.
With the nets now returned to the beaches and the stinger season upon us, this will conclude Elizabeth’s competitive Surf Season for CY2023. She will now ramp up her training for the QLD State Lifesaving Championships in March, for which she has again been selected to the NQ team – and then Aussies in May 24.
Congratulations Elizabeth.

Musical News

Did you know?
High School Musical was originally written in 1999, with a version of the script called Grease 3. It would have followed Danny and Sandy's kids in a plot almost identical to that of High School Musical's, only with serious similarities to Grease. Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were reportedly in mind for the lead roles.
